Bickel wasn't terrible in camp. He was very close to making the roster.

Physical player.

Avery does not need to be waived to fit in Erixon. At least for the time being. Staal placed on LTIR (can be done retroactively) means there is plenty of space. But they might wanna save some cap $$ for something twds the deadline.... thereby waiving perhaps Avery now again...

Well...just read on the Devils' board that Larsson will not be playing on Tuesday, so it looks like we're going to luck out and match the defense they'll have.

I really still think its possible Erixon can play. It makes sense that they want and extra d-man in case of injury.

Maybe Erixon got banged up last night. Maybe he has the flu.

Quote:
13.15 Holiday Roster Freeze. For all Players on an NHL Active Roster, Injured
Reserve, or Players with Non-Roster and Injured Non-Roster status as of midnight local
time December 19
, a roster freeze shall apply through midnight local time December 27,
with respect to Waivers, Trades and Loans; provided, however, that Players may be
Recalled to NHL Clubs during this period and
, provided further, that if a Player is placed
on Regular Waivers or Re-Entry Waivers prior to the roster freeze period and is claimed
during such roster freeze period, the roster freeze period shall not apply and the Player
shall immediately report to the claiming Club. However, during the roster freeze period a
Club can make any Player transactions necessary for the Club to come into compliance
with Article 50 as a result of a Player being removed from the Bona Fide Long-Term
Injury/Illness Exception.
Midnight December 19. That's tomorrow night.

Players can recalled during the roster freeze.

The press release says emergency basis

Quote:
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that defenseman Stu Bickel has been recalled from the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis.
http://rangers.nhl.com/club/news.htm...id=DL|NYR|home

CBA

Quote:
(m) Emergency Recall.

(i) A Player on Loan to a club of any league affiliated with the League
may be Recalled from such Loan under emergency conditions at
any time for the duration of the emergency only following which
he must be returned promptly to the club from which he was
Recalled.

(ii) Emergency conditions shall be established when the playing
strength of the Loaning Club, by reason of incapacitating injury or
illness or by League suspension to its Players is reduced below the
level of two (2) goalkeepers, six (6) defensemen and twelve (12)
forwards. Proof of the existence of the emergency conditions
including the incapacity shall be furnished to the Commissioner of
the League upon request made by him.
PAGE 73

Seems Bickel can be returned to the AHL during the roster freeze under emergency recall and Erixon can be called up. The Rangers are reduced below the level of six defensemen. Or Eminger is not hurt as badly as they thought last night. He could play later in the week? If Bickel was a regular recall,he could not be sent down until the 27th if he stays on the roster until midnight tomorrow.

There's always some method to the madness.

Devils are also on a 4-game win streak. Not an easy game.

bickel over erixon makes sense being down two physical defensemen in sauer and eminger, bickel goes right along being a tough hard nosed defenseman whereas erixon is more of a two way offensive guy and we already have dz and stralman for that. i dont mind this move at all give the guy a chance and see what hes got.

Bickel is 6'4''

They wanted a physical defenseman called up, not seeing why everyone is so upset over this. Let's see what he's got.

Bickell did not look out of place in camp. I don't know what people are looking for in a 6/7th dman. People wanted to give up assets for Matt Carkner, this guy basically does the same thing, at a very cap friendly rate. Nothing wrong with getting him into some games while the injury bug runs its course.

Awards:
Bickell isn't completely awful. Limit his minutes and match him wisely and he can do an okay job.

I don't know what it is with HF Rangers posters constantly exaggerating how "terrible" journeymen defensemen are.

With Stralman and MDZ already in the line-up they may not have wanted anther puck-mover inserted in there. Bickel was good in camp and decent in the pre-season.

I thought Bickel sucked in camp, but I'll give him a shot before I throw darts at Sather's picture.

I mean, Erixon didn't look that bad early this season. He was not impressive and he wasnt unimpressive, if that makes any sense.

Maybe a trade's in the works.

Erixon was just up practicing with the Rangers. They must not have thought he was totally ready.

Decent. Sucked. When you are being called up to replace Steve Eminger, either description may apply/

Well i didnt want to overstate his play because it was in the preseason where it seemed the rangers dressed three different teams while in Europe. He played tough and was steady.

He did however somewhere down the line acquire the nickname Stink Pickle. and you're right anybody filling Emminger spot could fall between decent and woeful.

Although Emminger has played well, I still will not buy that he has a "veteran presence" that some on this board were throwing around last year right before he was signed.

Devils are a grinding team, Philly grinds, the Isles grind...this makes sense. not like he will play more than 15 min if that many.

Uhh, Steve Eminger has been very good this season.

Also, if it were the case that only crappy players were brought up to replace below-average NHLers than the Rangers wouldn't have Ryan McDonagh.....

Bickel looked in camp as though he could be serviceable.

Let Erixon develop. Defensemen take longer to develop.

Im more concerned about scoring depth right now.

No ones answered my question on valentenko? Has he really not looked good in ct and developed as we hoped? This guy suppose to have a great shot and hits like a tank.

Yeah he was OK. I'm looking at it from the perspective that we ought to be a contending team, and that a 25-year-old ECHL'er, even as an emergency call up, should be nowhere near this roster.

"Very good" is a subjective term. And I disagree. He hasnt been very good this season. He's been good the last few games.

Besides, he was averaging about 12 mins a game.

I'm just curious why they decided to pass on younger guys with upside, especially when Bickel is super slow.

Eminger, for all his faults, isnt a bad skater.
