I was watching the interviews with the "fans" and one of them was very mad because he said that even if Cunneyworth is the coach by interim, what if Habs gets in the Stanley Cup finals, we would probably have to keep him next season.
I personally don't care if the coach speaks French, English, Russian or whatever he wants to speak as long as the team wins. But the Habs and their history are intertwined with Québec's history and cultural identity. The nickname "Habitants" comes from a pejorative term, used from the 1920s until the 1960s, to describe the French speaking population of Québec, depicted as rural, premodern, unlearned and simple minded. This cultural dimension is disappearing from the team, and fans have a right to demand it comes back to it without being called names by the English speaking fans who probaly aren't aware or don't care about the issue.
We have enough threads for these kinds of links and discussions. I'll ask you all to remember that, and to not post anything too politically motivated. We're trying our best to let most stuff around this issue go, as it's very much relevant to all Habs fans, but please try to throw the other mods and I a bone if you can.
