I don't believe there is any medical evidence to suggest that once a person is fully recovered from a concussion that more rest decreases the risk of further injury.

No, but it gives an extra buffer to be certain that symptoms aren't just under the surface. Slowly increase his exercise load, and give ample time afterwards to make sure there is no recurrence of symptoms.

The thing about concussions though, is that, even if you wait 2 weeks or 2 months, symptoms from the degree of the concussion can still be present (or "hidden" in other cases). That was one of the big problems with Crosby. He was symptom free for around 1-2 months, came back for a few games and had the symptoms again.

The elbow to the head probably didn't help either.. his first shift against the bruins.

I remember reading somewhere though, that it was even during the Isles game, he felt weird at times and I dont remember a bad hit. The tricky thing is, it is hard to diagnose how severe a concussion is. Yes, at times, it is easy (ie, internal bleeding etc etc), but there are times where headaches can be classified as concussion related.

RT @AnthonySan37: Giroux said he felt good after a 90 minute prax. Said it's still too early to tell if he can play in Dallas, but he wants to be back soon.

Seems like Giroux comes back sooner than later

Where does one draw the line then? If he's cleared to play, how long after he's cleared to play do you wait? 2 weeks? 4 weeks? 10 weeks? 10 months? At some point, he's gonna have to either take a shift or retire.

DENVER _ Star center Claude Giroux skated with the Flyers for the second straight day in Denver on Monday and continued to make strides in his recovery from a Dec. 10 concussion.

Giroux skated for about 90 minutes total _ about an hour longer than the regulars _ and said he felt good.

“It’s a process. You want to test yourself a little bit more every day,” Giroux said, adding he has to push it “a little harder to get back in shape. But it was a good test today and it felt pretty good. If there are no symptoms, I don’t see why you can’t push yourself. I had a good skate with the boys today.”

Giroux, who is tied with for the NHL scoring lead with 39 points, has missed the last three games.

“I told myself when I go back on the ice, I’m going to skate hard. I have a habit to go hard, and that’s what I’m trying to do,” he said.

The 23-year-old center was asked if there was any chance he could play Wednesday in Dallas.

“I don’t think about that kind of stuff right now,” he said. “I go day by day, and it’s two more days for that game. If I’m ready to go, I’m ready to go. If it’s the Rangers (Friday), good. If it’s after Christmas, I don’t see why to push it. It’s December.”

DENVER -- Claude Giroux skated a hard 90 minutes Monday at Pepsi Center and says he continues to have good days in succession.

He is recovering from a concussion suffered on Dec. 10 against Tampa Bay.

“It’s progress and you want to test yourself a little bit more every day,” Giroux said. “Obviously, in Colorado it’s a little harder to get back in shape (thin air). But it was a good test to see where I was. I felt good.”

He has not had any hard contact with other players yet. The Flyers meet the Colorado Avalanche tonight.

As for the 90-minute workout...

“If there’s no symptoms, I see no reason why not to push yourself,” Giroux said. “I told myself when I got back on the ice, I wasn’t going on and just cruise about the ice. I want to skate hard. I have a habit of going hard every shift.”

Congrats, that's very good news. Try not to run up the division lead too much, now.

I rarely use a signature when I post, but from now on, when I do, it will be this...I am the most interesting man in the world.

You're both right that there's no magic formula. I'm just advocating a day or two of slow-down after the full-on practice session. I'd just like some caution from the people who are supposed to be making wise decisions for this team.

Any word on how Claude is feeling after a couple of good practices? Are they hitting the ice today?

Don't know if this means anything at all, but Claude Giroux is taking regular shifts with Jagr and Hartnell at practice today.
