We had two goals - he assisted on one. Keep looking.

I think it is about time to start calling Smyth on his play in the last 10 games

Solid analysis.

Are you gonna tell all the people saying you're wrong to take off the homer glasses now? You have no clue what you're talking about.

We're supposed to exert effort. That should be a given.

In the NHL, you win games.

You don't get points for "hanging with the other team" for 40 minutes and then ******** the bed.

This is when you officially know that you have a culture of losing.
You're right, you don't get points. But it's something to build on, isn't it? Many of us didn't expect the Oilers to win many games this year, but they're keeping games a lot closer than they did last year.

Given that they blew away the Kings 8-2, who are in my mind a much better team than we are, it's not so bad we held them in check.

Well it sure didn't help them, did it?

And really, who are you going to give it to?

Truly that seems to be how we hire coaches around here, the clever witty guy with the funny anecdotes gets the job.

I salivate at the thought of a demanding coach who loves to draw up plays and focusses on special teams, and isn't afraid of the occasional bag skate if the effort isn't there.

Saw all you need to see? So 5 minutes of a game is enough to judge that a player did nothing in the entire game?
It seems that you just conveniently picked a target and decided to beat it to death just for the fun of it so i'll just step away.

Two games in a row with good overall effort. Night and day difference from the Phoenix and Calgary debacles. The Oilers are not a playoff team. Everyone knew that at the start of the year. Everyone k we defense was the Achilles heel. So why all the venom when they lose to a perennial powerhouse in the Red Wings?

I'm as critical as the next fan when the effort is lacking. But when the effort is there and they lose like they did tonight I think you have to be at least a little bit encouraged.

The positive I liked about this game was, the kids went head to head with Detroit top players which I am sure they picked up some learning experiences from. Such an experienced team, there's always something to learn from even if it was a lose.

Truth be told, Ryan Smyth does look slow right now and it really seems like he's out of gas!

Maybe the wear and tear over the past several seasons is finally showing. :-(
I wasn't a fan of bringing him back and the LA board was saying that Smyth started off good last year too and then just petered out. Smyth said that he would have waived for Calgary as well so this really wasn't a 'bleeding blue' move (but that story picked up steam), it was a moving closer to home move.. his home is between the two teams. We're so overloaded anyway..

On another note.. we improved from yesterday at the start of the game. One thing I would love to be able to do is bring Omark up.. he tries! and he's fun to watch.. too bad he's still injured but he doesn't float around, sadly there is no room for him either.

Our kids are great! But that's enough of them. Stu is great at later first round picks as well and Tambo better not be at that panel waiting for the Edmonton ball to drop in the lotto..

You may be fine with the losing believing this is good however I bet the boys on that team are not liking the losing culture that has infested this team. If you read the body language from most of the team they just sag when they get scored on especially in the third period of games. You want to see some push back, give it to the other team not sit back and pray you don't make a mistake. Yes they played well for most of the game however most doesn't cut it.

And this is precisely it.

I'm amazed at all those who are delusional enough to think that we could sign someone like Shea Weber.

Who the **** would want to sign with this team?

Who the **** would want to stay with this team if they had a choice?

This is why you obtain decent talent, Tambo. This is why you win games.

This is damaging the organization more than people realize.

With our defense as bad as it is, not at all. During that third period at times the guys were handling the puck like it was a grenade, they were scared.

I'm not fine with losing. Nobody is. But I'm seeing positives. Yes they sagged a bit in the third. The Wings are a veteran team, they know what it takes to win. Do you really expect Detroit to just sit back and watch us take it to them?

And it's not as if Detroit hasn't had bad stretches in this game either, or even this season. Didn't they lose 6 in a row at one point?

If they play like that against other teams they might at least come away with a point. Tough loss tonight, but it's a far cry from some of the lackadaisical efforts we saw in Calgary and Phoenix.

You're not encouraged at all that we kept the game close with our poor defense? What exactly are you expecting? That we steamroll them?

No argument here. Maybe we could trade Peckham for Nik Lidstrom straight up!

Seriously? I mean, we managed to dominate for 40 minutes and you still don't think we could have won against the Mighty Detroit Red Wings? We also beat Chicago 9-2. See, I can do that too. I'm getting sick of this content-with-losing attitude.

Coming close or almost winning doesn't cut it!
