Monday's Practice Lines

Greening - Spezza - Alfredsson
Condra - Turris - Foligno (to play against his brother in his brother's first NHL game)
Smith - Regin - Neil
Daugavins - Konopka - Winchester
Butler

Cowen - Karlsson
Phillips - Carkner
Kuba - Gonchar
Lee

Anderson
Auld

*****

So no Michalek yet, but Kuba and Gonchar will be back. Turris of course on the 2nd line.

I actually like Condra playing with Turris...not only will stamina rub off on Turris who may still be in need of some conditioning, he's a smart player and him and Foligno should be good with the puck.

Agreed. Condra will deliver those sneaky passes in traffic and Turris will convert.

once michalek is back and in for condra i think those are the best combos to go with at least to start.
glad he didn't break up spezza and alfie.

Condra has no business being in the top 6.

I am suprised for sure by the lines. Spezza and Michalek seemed to have developed great chemistry and now Alfie has been shifted to the top line. Turris and MM are both shooters and Foligno isn't much of a playmaker....

I'd prefer:

Greening - Spez - Michalek
Foligno - Turris - Alfie

We'd all prefer Michalek in the top 6, but he's not available right now and Condra is as worthy as anyone else in the bottom 6. He's quietly performing very consistently night in and night out and PM has noticed.

well i think spezza and alfie showed even more chemistry than spezza and michalek. Michalek is more of a one dimensional shooter. alfie can play give and go, drop pass (and dingle dangle, zippy zoo and what not) a little better with spezza. I'm sure everything will be tried.

Good to see that both Gonch and Kuba will be back.

Will be interesting to see what Turris can bring to this team.

Stamina aside, I'm actually really excited to see how Condra plays when given some top 6 minutes for the first time here. He has shown some flashes of an offensive upside that perhaps we haven't really seen yet.

Not really digging Condra in the top 6 over Regin. That said, it makes our bottom 6 all that much better.

Can't wait for Michalek to be back.

Condra's deserving of the chance, but I'd still prefer Regin in the top 6. I'm definitely a homer fan of Regin, but he's shown great hustle himself and played very responsibly since coming back from injury. He can handle a lot of minutes and his playmaking skills would complement Turris nicely, no?

Daugavins definitely earned the shot to play with Spezza when Michalek got injured, and he lost his spot only because he was the wrong fit. I think Condra will end up the same.

EDIT:
My preferred lineup is in Brisbane's post below.

Whilst I can appreciate the move up for Condra, I think moving him there weakens our bottom 6 a bit. I would of preferred:
Greening-Spezza-Alfie
Regin-Turris-Foligno
Daugavins-Smith-Condra
Winchester-konopka-Neil

good to see Kubs & Gonch back though

It'll go to that when Michalek comes back. Condra is a safe player to put in the top 6...I prefer it to watching Butler kill any offensive zone presence we could have make it much harder to get the kid going.

Condra isn't a top 6 player...but you can put him there and he won't embarrass himself. Much like Chris Kelly that way. Smart.

hmm Regin isnt on the 3rd line cause Condra is better.... it is cause Regin and Foligno are both left shooters....

Foligno and Regin both play LW/C which means one has to be moved to another line with Turris drawing in.

Maclean said in his presser today that Condra is on the 2nd line cause that is how the pieces fell into place.

Also of note, Marcus Foligno was called up for Tuesday's game.

Condra with Turris and Alfie also makes sense because it adds physicality to the line and a defensively responsible winger. It makes perfect sense.

Regin on the third line is going to be awesome. Regin is better than a third line centre so he should be deadly against weaker opposition.

Exactly what I was hoping for in the next game.

No need to break up Dawg-Smith-Condra, and I feel Regin's style of play as a passer and slick-skater would benefit Turris and Foligno. Condra has speed (and there's no questioning his stamina) but I question his offensive acumen.

Ah well, we'll find out how this goes tomorrow. I've been pleasantly surprised with almost everything on the ice so far this season.

I think Condra's defensive awareness is why they put him on the second line with Turris.

id do something like

foligno - spezza - alfredsson
regin - turris - condra
greening - smith - neil
daugavins - konopka - winchester

foligno deserves some minutes with spezz and alfie, surround turris with defensively responsible wingers with some playmaking ability and have a very solid bottom 6

More to do with puck possession IMO. If you're implying Turris is weak on D, pretty sure that's a misconception.

Maybe we can trade Spezza to the Yotes to get Rundblad back.

...in a three-way trade with the Habs that sends Scott Gomez to the Coyotes, Thomas Plekanec, Max Pacioretty, and Montreal's 1st to the Sens, and Shane Doan to Montreal.

Phoenix gets Spezza, Gomez
Sens get Plekanec, Pacioretty, Rundblad, Montreal's 1st
Montreal gets Shane Doan
