I dont think the Caps are ready to trade Zubrus yet, he is good friends with both Ovechkin and Semin and having him here could be pretty big in the fight to get Semin to play here next season.

)

First deal: Take out Janne N and I still wouldn't do it. No interest in Ribeiro. The Isles are too small and too gritless up front as it is.

Second deal: Witt is an impending UFA who has looked horrible this year and Janne N has finally turned the corner on his game. Pass again.

I'd do Kvasha+ for Zubrus though.

Just my opininon, but looking to the future of the Montreal franchise Ryder would an untouchable for me. Only his second year, he's strong, decent skater, and has shown a great ability to score and in some clutch situations.

Anyone else could be trade bait, just not him.

Every proposal is a day light robbery. Montreal is a clear winner.
Sheldon Souray for Transtrom. I think Pittsburgh could use some size on blue line but straggling Souray has a nice contract so if I was Pittsburgh Id ask for a draft pick.
Vancouver and NYI trades are laughable.

For some reason people consistently seem to think that the Isles are some charity that takes other team's problems and gives up good NHL players in return.

no thanks again. Todd and Ed would be great but not at the expense of the 2nd-3rd best goalie in the league and our #1 goal scorer the past 2 seasons.
No one is getting their hands on Theo.

Calling "Theo" the "2nd-3rd best goalie in the league" is a bit of a leap. I wouldn't even put him in the top five. And, as far as this season alone goes, I wouldn't even put him in the top 10.

Given that he is on a team with a winning record, but has a SAA% that is not even in the top 15 in the league, I don't see how you can begin to argue that he is the 2nd best goalie in the league with a straight face.

well, it certainly is my opinion and it doesnt have to be shared by anyone.

about the % thing, Brodeur isnt any better in that department yet not many will say hes not #1 in this league...

A) Theodore's team is a lot better than Brodeur's.
B) Brodeur's done a helluva lot more than Theodore for a helluva lot longer time.

i've seen this offered about 30 times.

Tis is such an overpayment by Montreal, and they'd never do such a stupid trade.

"B" is the real issue for me. But, I agree that Brodeur is having a fairly average season so far.

Agreed. Jovanovski contract status in addition to the fact it would make no sense cap wise, make this deal completely ludicrous from a Habs perspective.

I'd actually argue that Ryder is worth more than Jovocop or Bertuzzi right now -when you take into account production by dollar.

I wouldn't pick Tarnstrom off of waivers, much less giving up Niinimaa for him.

Ok... here's my thoughts on the deals...

The Pittsburgh/Montreal deal, nope I wouldnt want it. Dick Tarnstrom is good, but a Souray (when firing) is better. And we need more defence in Montreal, not less.

The NYI/Habs deal, is a heavy offer to consider... I REALLY like the Niinima/Souray deal, and if there was a definate #2 center in Montreal, it would be much easier... However that is what might break the camel's back in the deal (Hunter/Ribeiro)... Doing this deal, might leave a goalless (in 24 some odd games) Bonk, or an unestablished rookie (Higgins/Plekanec) to have a HUGE load to carry for the rest of the season, and Hunter would actually be a nice touch, however it'd still be difficult to find the proper room for him (he'd be shuttled all over the lines) on the squad. Nice proposal though, a very hard one to eye up.

If I were the Isles in the third, I'd be crying in my beer... Niinima >> Witt, and Kvasha </= Zubrus. Too much of a lateral move in NY's part to do the deal.

Vancouver/Montreal deal would be HUGE. Personally I'd stick with Theodore right now, as he's proven he can fight to win a series. Bertuzzi is a force of nature, but Ryder is just getting started, and is a hero in Montreal. Jovo >Sheldon, but Theo >> Cloutier. Best player in the deal is Theodore (he'd be the type of guy that changes a team's chances in this deal) so nah, I'd pass... It's not often a team can ice a top 5 goalie in the 30 team NHL, so he'd be the deal breaker. + there's no other suitable replacement.

Because Milbury's traded players (mainly prospects) on the orders of his owners is no reason to pretend that Isles fans will agree with a trade proposal that has their best young forward going away for scraps.
