12/19 Ferriero recalled? UPD: 12/20 announcement

PollakOnSharks 12:07pm via Twitter for BlackBerry® Hmmm. Benn Ferriero now has locker stall at #SJSharks Ice.

Holiday roster freeze went into effect at midnight ET (Monday morning, AKA Sunday 9pm PT).

So, it's possible with Havlat's injury they recalled Ferriero and he's traveling today.

(FTR - if he plays one NHL game, he has to clear waivers to go back to Worcester.)

So, how long does he have to stay in SJ so that he is not exposed to waivers?

So BENN may replace Havlat for one game?

wow, I'm honestly surprised at the move. Why bring him in and risk waivers? Are they thinking of keeping him for the duration now?

I'm completely perplexed to be honest. Ferriero wasn't effective early this season, and I don't see why that would change now. If it's true, I would hope he would play with Pavs and JT, because he's not going to be much of a help with McGinn and Handzus, I'd imagine... but then McGinn and Zeus are stuck with Mitchell again and they were playing so well... Le sigh...

Well, as long as he doesn't get plugged into an actual game, he can go right back.

FYI...even if Ferriero were recalled under emergency conditions he would still need to clear waivers to go back to the AHL if he plays in one game. A player is waiver exempt under emergency conditions only if he's cleared waivers previously. As Ferriero has never been subject to waivers he wouldn't be exempt under that provision.

my guess is Ferriero only plays if havlat''s injury is serious, potentially losing him on wavers would be unpleasant. A. Murray could play on the third line, and Ginner could get a look in the top six...

McGinn-Thornton-Pavelski
Clowe-Marleau-Couture
Mitchell-Handzus-Murray
Winchester-Desjardins-Mclaren

sorry, but if ginners playin top 6, hes playing with his junior center couture, no ifs ands or buts.

ferriero wouldnt even be a big waiver loss guys. id actually be surprised if anyone would claim him. hes not good enough for top 6, not gritty enough for bottom 6.

PollakOnSharks 1:36pm via Web McLellan didn't confirm that Ferriero was coming up from Worcester. Someone will be, but consider locker nameplate circumstantial evidence.

They started a few games with McGinn - Thornton - Mitchell, so yeah, there are "ifs, ands, or buts".

If we end up losing Ferriero on waivers I think 210 is going to go postal.

He is not alone. We might as well have 2 goalies on the ice as we are not going to be scoring many goals.

Perhaps Ferriero will be included in package with Nitty? Or someone else (McLaren?)?

I really like Ferriero, but I have no idea why he was called up when Wingels is doing so well that he was named AHL player of the week.

Could be they trade Mitchell with Nitty. Don't know what the popular opinion is of Mitchell on the top line, but I feel he's been dragging down his linemates. Could be they gave him a last chance to succeed and raise his trade value. When everyone is healthy I could see Marleau -Jumbo-Pavs, Clowe-Couture-Ferriero, McGinn-Zues-Havlat as three scoring lines. Then maybe add someone at the deadline.

I'd be all for a Nitty + Mitchell trade, but you have to wonder what that would really return.

Aside from Ferriero being called up, is there actually anything to make us think a trade is coming?

Doubtful on the trade front, especially with the holidays incoming. I can't see DW doing that right now.

I guess the lines will be something like this tomorrow:

12-19-17
29-39-8
64-26-78
10-69-28

Scratch/waive 68. Honestly, as soon as possible.
