Lehner In?

If by February, we have almost locked up a playoff spot or somewhat close, and Anderson and Auld are not cutting it, is their a chance Lehner comes in?

I was watching the highlights of the Leafs game he played in and he was solid.

And he has experience in big playoff runs. See Bingo....

Is that possible? I think Anderson is getting better and better, and he's part of the reason we're still contending for a playoff spot. But I'd be in to give Lehner some experience.

Maybe if we go 18-2 in our next 20.

And even then, just leave the kid alone til next year. Give him another couple starts or let him up if we need him.

This thread is so contradictory... it doesn't even make sense... If we are a lock for a playoff spot then wouldn't that mean Anderson and Auld ARE cutting it...

I think he has a better shot at playing if we are pretty much guaranteed to NOT be in the playoffs.

I would like to See Lehner play every now and then throughout the rest of the season.

Id like to see himi with 5-7 GP by end of season regardless of our position.

It will depend what Murray think that it is better for his development. Either play in Bingo or sit in Ottawa. IMO he would finish this season in Bingo and the next camp and the season will show what next.

Lehner may end the season in Ottawa after the trade deadline if Auld is traded for a pick. I doubt that any team wants Auld, but he has been traded before & if some team has goalie injuries it's possible, so you never know. If they are out of the playoff race I'm sure they will call up Lehner for a few games as well but I doubt they bring him up to replace either Anderson or Auld.

No need, let him develop in Bingo this season. We are in no rush.

Agree with OP, if we clinch a playoff spot in Feb, we can rest Anderson/Auld for the playoffs. Smart thinking OP, I'm going to start calling you the sexy Bob Mckenzie of Hfboards, the sexy hot king Mckenzie of HF.

I'm not so sure, do give Alex Auld and Craig Anderson a chance to show who they really are. Wait till next season that Lehner will get an opportunity.

If Anderson is injured, or continues to play like this, Lehner should get a shot.

I didn't read the responses yet, but it seems highly unlikely that we will be guaranteed a playoff spot WITHOUT one of Anderson or Auld playing like a #1 goalie.

In terms of odds, it's well below 1% that the Sens are essentially clinched a spot and Auld or Anderson aren't performing.

So no.

Lehner has not had great stats in Bingo - probably more a factor of the team in front of him but he's been pulled several times. I don't think he'll get a call up unless there's an injury or next season when Auld is UFA.

I realise he helped the team to the Calder last season but I don't think it's fair to say he's in any condition to come to Ottawa yet. He certainly didn't impress Murray losing 5-2 in Ottawa vs Hamilton. Right now McKenna is the better goalie and he is on a 2-way deal so he may get the call up before Lehner.

Do the Schneider. Leave him in the AHL this year and next, have him play 10-15 games after that, then 20-30 then take over when Anderson's contract is up.

just leave him where he is, we have 2+ years of a starter under contract before we need to shop him to a SC contender who wants a backup and isnt in our conference and salary cap inflation allows 4+ million for a backup. Be happy we dont have to rush him because our goalie gets freak injuries for standing in line at Jamba Juice.

I checked the other day and he had a 0.918 save %. Pretty solid imo especially with a crap team.

Sorry, but anyone who has followed your posting history knows you aren't a Lehner fan.

Even your post in this thread diminishes his role in carrying the BSens to the Calder last year.

Remind me again who was the MVP of the playoffs in the AHL last year...

Schneider was developing behind a guy who was not only one of the best goalies in the NHL, but also an absolute workhorse.

His situation and Lehner's situation are completely different. Anderson is nowhere near Luongo's caliber and he came to a starter's position late in life - maybe part of the reason he hasn't been as good is because he can't handle the expectations of being a starting goalie for a playoff bound team.

If Lehner is the real deal, he'll be that this year, and next year, and the year after. It's pretty damn tough to ruin guys, you have to really try to do it. The closest a prominent goalie prospect has come to being ruined lately is Fleury - he played behind some horrible teams (far worse than Ottawa is this year) and had zero support, let alone the ability to mentor with a guy like Anderson. He came out of it ok.

Elliott was ruined because we literally had no other options and our coach was a chuckle**** in terms of how he dealt with the goaltending. Lehner can come in, get chances to get a win and accustom himself to the speed of the NHL game, and go back down for more work when he has a bad game. There is no harm in treating him this way, and it results in him having just as many chances to play a full starter's schedule as if he was just in Bingo the whole time.

1) That's a pretty big assumption on your part
2) You said stats not 'game watching'
3) You hate Lehner
4) Are expecting Lundqvist? Are you expecting an All-Star NHL goalie at this point in his career?
