12-19-17

64-26-78
10-69-28

Scratch/waive 68. Honestly, as soon as possible.
They have Ferriero skating w/ Thornton & Pavelski at practice...

There won't be a trade 'soon' due to the holiday freeze, but Wilson did say he expects Havlat to be out for a while. That could push him to make a move before he wants to.

I think I read elsewhere that Ferriero is actually the Worcester points leader over the season to date. Also, he has a good deal more experience in the "bigs" than Wingels, including some good postseason play last year. So it could make sense. But, could just be a coaching "judgment call" about style of play.

That's stupid. Very stupid. Wingels?

You know, I'm okay with that (78 along 19/8). Patty's played well centering line 2.

As for a trade, I'd be shocked if we don't do something in January. That'll give the team a month to show what they can do before the deadline and another potential roster tweak. We're hovering in 8th, which is better than 12th like last year, but still far below where we should be. Doug won't/can't wait to watch the guys burn themselves out again in an epic March push for playoff seeding.

Wingels hasn't showed anything when he has been called up. It may be better for him to keep getting better in the A for awhile.

There is no need to recall him to trade him...

I really don't like this but don't get mad at me: Benn Ferriero has been recalled to fill in for Martin Havlat. It might be that Benn may play 2 games while Havlat recovers

Welcome to yesterday.

If it were just for two games they wouldn't have recalled Ferriero.

This is make-it-or-break-it time for Benn. McLellan notes that "it's time for him to show that he belongs in the NHL" (or something to that effect).

He's here until the end, or until he plays poorly enough to be exposed to waivers. In either case, he's seemlingly done with us if it gets to the point that the AHL is an option.

I smell a swan song for Benn, Benn tried to put in a satisfactory effort but putting Benn in the AHL will be better so that McLellan will give the players in Worchester Sharks an opportunity to show who they are.

So what is the chance that Ferriero has a McGinn kind of year?

Best case for us is that Ferriero outperforms Mitchell who we then trade in a package(Nittymaki?). Ferriero will then be juggled around on our lines I guess. He is not good enough for the first and I really don't want the 2nd or 3rd to be messed around with right now? That leaves only the 4th line.

Worst case .. Ferriero on waivers as soon as Havlat is back?

I would absolutely rather have Ferriaro on the top line than Mitchell (between the two). Remember when Vesce came up for that last stint and had a 3 game goal scoring streak, then got injured and never returned?

Just something to think about

Heh to be honest .. no I don't remember. Been a serious hockey fan only for about a year and a half so am kind of hazy on a lot of Sharks history.

That being said .. unless Ferriero shows something substantial over the next 2-3 weeks, I would think either Mitchell or him will end up being tradebait. And quick.

It's time for Ferriero. He's not a 3rd line player, he has very good offensive skills. I don't mind the move of putting him on the top line.

Put Benny in the second line and see how he does, if he does well. TERRIFIC! If it doesn't, well try the top line. That way, Benn can show his teammates what he has done in Worchester Sharks.

Holiday trade freeze until Tuesday night.

So nothing will be happening until next week at the earliest.

Ferriero was pretty good last season with Cloweture so that should work out pretty well if they roll that line again.

Looks like he'll get his shot

Quote:
“Every time Benn has come in to our situation, he’s been an effective player. If Marty has any type of long-term injury, this will give Benny a chance to finally establish himself as a legitimate National Hockey League player,” said McLellan.
