Talking to sources there is a definite and growing possibility that Patrick Roy could be en route to interview with the Montreal Canadiens. I like this idea on several levels.

Beyond the obvious fun that would ensue reporting on Roy in Montreal (which would be amazingly awesome and make my job extremely easy) I do believe this current group of players in Montreal desperately need a coach like Patrick Roy...and here's why...

These players are under more scrutiny than any team in the NHL (yes even more than the Maple Leafs) and I get a sense there is a bit of media fatigue settling in with this group. A coach like Roy would understand this and immediately be able to shift the focus away from Markov, Cammalleri, Gomez, etc... That would be very healthy at this point and I truly believe the only chance this team has of seeing the playoffs is to get the pressure of the guys on the ice.

All that Jacques Martin isn't, Roy is. My fear is the Habs hiring another old school guy like Martin and leaving the players hanging out there.

More to come..

Talking to sources there is a definite and growing possibility that Eklund comes up with another rumor before the end of the season.

as long as cammy is going the other way, and we don't have to add anything of significance, then let's do it!

Um, he is big, tough and gritty. He's one of my favorite players in the league (Colorado days). I'm not sure though that it's a good idea to trade a LW against another RW. If we were to lose Kostitsyn in the summer we would have a serious lack of good LW.

Just becuase teams can't finalize trades during the freeze period doesn't mean they can't still discuss deals..

if steward is available, PG will overpay to get him. PG is trying to save his job and season.

This is what I'm afraid of. PG is known to be pretty frugal but if he panics and starts giving away things he has no business giving, I'll flip.

Couple things:

1) What team has really suffered from cap problems if they have deep pockets? Philly is one team that is constantly pushing the cap limit and then dealing with the issues as they actually arise. Chicago had to break up their team but both won the cup and are right back in the hunt already.

It drives me crazy the way Marinaro et al. cry about the cap problems. Bull. Bad trades, shallow depth, lack of size, lack of talent, those are all legit complaints. The habs have deep pockets, so pushing the cap is the last of our worries. Toronto buried finger, NY buries half the contracts they sign. If we can't create cap room that's a pure management issue. This year we have 13 million free just from Gomez and Markov's injury issues. But sure, the reason the Habs have no future is their cap commitments. What a stupid argument. Recent history says completely otherwise. You can way, way way overspend (hello NYR) and then get out of it no problem, you just need a big enough budget and an occasional sucker (hello Montreal Canadiens).

We have lots of organizational problems. Our ability to take on bad contracts isn't one of them. Just ask Brian Burke, that has been his biggest leverage, taking players who other teams didn't want to pay- Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul and Lombardi all fit that description to varying degrees.

Well, Stewart is one of the few players I wouldn't mind overpay (to a certain degree of course) for. He's one of the remaining few true powerforwards in the game.

Bring Perezhogin back. Another thing: Kostitsyn prefers playing at RW.

Not this year, that's why his stats suck. Last year was pretty mediocre also.

He is. I'd love to have him. But in a year where we can easily tail spin into bottom 5, there's very little chance I'd want to part with our first rounder. Learned that lesson from Tarahna

stewart is overrated. serious question: what has stewart done to warrant the kinds of return he will invariably get?

and isn't it a red flag that a key piece of a trade done last year, is on the block already?
