Eminger is a very solid 6/7 on most any team in the league, for sure. He's the best out of Stralman, Woywitka, etc.

Frankly, I'm loving Stralman so far. I knew he'd be a nice upgrade over Woywitka once he learned the system, but damn has he been good.

Looking back over the past 4+ months, the Rangers best acquisitions may yet be Brendan Bell, Steve Eminger, Anton Stralman and the claiming of Jeff Woywitka.

No matter if you like them or not, this team would not be in the same position without all of these guys pulling some of the weight on the back-end.

Besides the obvious of Richards.

that has been a problem with Stralman for years. he has a few good games, gets cocky, and then has a few bad games where he forgets to use his body positioning on defense.

Woywitka has spurts of solid games followed by a game where he is caught flat-footed and beaten.

These guys all have holes. It doesn't mean they are AHL d-men.
The body positioning and overall weakness are my problems with Stralman. I like what he does offensively but those 2 things outdo the good offensively. Not trying to start a fight here but I don't see Stralman has a top-4. I don't really see him as a top-6 either. He's just not the type of defenseman you want to step in for injuries. I'd prefer a guy who plays solid defense and doesn't try to do too much. Stralman isn't your typical defensive defenseman so his flaws tend too look worse when he's stepping in.

I can concur with that. But that is the type of player a team will be able to have as their #6/7/8. Those types of players have holes in their games. It's the coaches job to minimize those points as much as possible. Torts and Sullivan have been VERY good at that this season with all of the d-men being talked about.

I agree, the coaches have done a great job with the defense this year. I'm just not a big fan of Stralman. Never have been of the okay-offensive defenseman who have big holes defensively. I feel they tend to to hurt the team more than they do good. Which explains why i like Woywitka more than him. In a perfect world neither would be playing. I just felt the need to reply to a post where Bickel is being praised after 1 game and a guy who has played most of the season with us is AHL-caliber. Nothing against Bickel I just disagree with Woywitka being that bad.

When was the last time a NY Rangers D-Man dropped the gloves to protect a teammate? It was a breath of fresh air when Stu went after Clarkson after his big hit.
I honestly can't remember the last time this happened? I cant freaking wait for the Undertaker.

lol whats with the does not include Woywitka?

saying he is a current member of the lineup already? If so kinda but not really as if Staal was not hurt he would not be on the team

when healthy NHL contracts are Staal, Girardi, McDonaugh, Sauer, Del Zotto, Eminger, Stralman

so to me Woywitka, Bickell are fill ins.......Erixon too but he's atleast a top prospect with a long term future on the team.........crap even Bell got in a game this yr.............10 Dmen so far, Staal to be 11th(crosses fingers) and maybe a deal

Sauer drops them pretty regularly when he's not concussed or has a crocked shoulder

Torts also impressed with Stu Bickel in first NHL game: "He's not afraid to step in and try to make a difference." Used him on PK as well
Torts likes him. I agree

I think Woywitka is serviceable--but also replaceable. He's a 7th d-man if Staal were healthy and Eminger would be bottom pairing. Eminger stepped up and did pretty well in the top four but both Staal and Sauer are a lot better. Stralman's done well but again he's more a bottom pairing guy. The thing with Eminger, Stralman and Woywitka is they're seasoned pros. They're not great defensemen but they've been around the block a number of times. They know what's expected of them to hang on. Bickel played well tonight and he's big and tough--and the Rangers defense can use that. He played a simple game and fit in well. He's not going to be a top 4 guy but maybe he'll stick around for a while.

He wasn't that bad. A lot of heart and hustle with him as well. He sucked, but I respected the kid.

I think Stu played a solid game.

Stralman has been much better than I want to give him credit for but he is very soft and got burned a few times tonight.

I like the size and snarl Stu brings back there.

Devils are a big team...I am so glad Prust refused Bolton....but Bolton did his job getting Cally off the ice for ten minutes...they is why I would love a Lucic or Clowe type.

I know Clarkson is a ******...but I would take him in a heartbeat as well.

Funny how the Devils are at the bottom of the Prospect rankings yet always call up kids that produce...Henrique is a real nice player.

Stepan is a very special player.

Didn't he have a nice shot or something? What a totally forgettable player.

I barely remember him, but all I remember is that he was SLOW. I remember being excited when we got him (young me, lol), and when I watched him...I took it back. Gotta appreciate the hustle, as you said...but there's a reason we got him for Dan Fritsche (aka he sucks).

Lesson from all this? Posters on HF need to stop with the wild exaggerations about how bad players are. Oh, and people on our board can't judge defensive talent for ****.
Not sure why people forgot that Bickel was good in camp, and nearly made the team.

I hope he sticks and creates a difficult decision later in the season.

More quality depth.
