Bottom line -- The Rangers don't win without Henrik holding the Fort.
I hate hearkening to 1994, but "the ice was tilted towards the Rangers goal" for about 5 mins with some excellent scoring chances for the Devils, namely Zajac and Henrique. Henrik was a wall. Period.
What changed the game (aside from henrik's saves) was the Stepan line put together the first really good shift of the game. It didnt lead to a goal, but it set the tone and established a presence.
Then, for whatever reason, the Devils started gambling at the red line with drop passes and cross ice passes instead of safe dump ins. To me that cost them the game.
1) Enough of Boyle. Enough. Enough. Enough. He does N-O-T-H-I-N-G. 4-for-7 on draws, lost every one in the d-zone and each loss lead to a good chance.
2) Anybody who thought Erixon wasnt ready needs to get their heads checked. The kid was super smooth out there with both his coverage and outlet passes. Granted, in less than 10 mins of ice time, but hey!
Is this what you Rangers fans felt back in the 90s and early 00s against Marty? Just pure frustration? Because I don't hate Lundqvist. He's freaking great for the game, but every time we have to go against him, all I can think before the game is, "I hope we can score more than one or two goals against him". And then we almost never do... so frustrating!!
