Wow, another forgettable Rangers prospect. Dan Fritsche. Massive amount of hype.

More quality depth.
His lack of footspeed in Europe was burned into my mind. Bell-Bickel...that pairing was a nightmare against Switzerland. Good to see him play well, though, as you said, it adds quality depth. You can never have enough NHL caliber defenseman in this league.

I liked Bickel in camp. I had thought he made the team (along with Bell). Figured they'd alternate #6/7 duties.

Yeah they had some difficulty there.

Europe really screwed with the team's game as a whole.

I agree with an earlier statement that Gernander and the staff in Hartford is doing a great job getting players ready for the NHL.

Screwed with the team and the fanbase (case in point: all the dolts that jumped off the bandwagon early).

I don't know how anyone DIDN'T know that the Euro trip was the cause of the early struggles. That **** sucked.

I just think folks were concerned.

I was concerned about the defense, but man has it stepped up huge. A sum of its parts.

Played a pretty good game tonight. Also, I'm proposing the nickname "Rugrat", picture VERY related lol.

(If you're older, Stu Pickels was the dad on "Rugrats", a staple of 90s Nickelodeon.)

Lesson from all this? Posters on HF need to stop with the wild exaggerations about how bad players are. Oh, and people on our board can't judge defensive talent for ****.

I believe the dialogue from that scene was

"Why are you making pudding at 4 in the morning?"
"Because I've lost control of my life"

Fantastic for a kid's show.

Let's give it up for our very own Anton. Stralman has made some nice passes, and while he's a bit of an adventure in his own zone, he hasn't been a Christian Backman nightmare. Already a plus in my book.

I also enjoy the Stu Pickles memories. Big fan of Doug and Salute Your Shorts.

For the record, there is no sarcasm in this post. I really do think that Bickel was an excellent guy to pick up and I'm glad he's part of the organization.

Who ever would have thought that we'd get someone who would ever contribute even a game or two at the NHL level for that garbage?
Not bad for under 10 mins. Got a huge assist. I only think he was a good pickup because Williams was such a piece of hick garbage and somebody was willing to save us from him.

When all is said and done, I wouldnt mind keeping that pairing intact and let them develop together. Screw that "W" guy and Strawman is obviously having some issues.

Wow, talk about a terrible d-man flashback in Backman back in 07.

Wasn't there a lot of people bashing the organization for bring up Bickle and not Erixxon? Personally, I have yet to see the hype of Erixxon. I'm sure he'll be good one day, but I hope they send him back down. I don't have much confidence in him.

I thought it was an inside thing. Or maybe a lone wolf trying to coin something. Like the guy who started calling Del Zotto "Dizzy" and everybody freaked out and told him to stop

Henrik Lundqvist makes mediocre defenseman look phenomenal. The real heroes are Henrik, Girardi, MCD and MDZ. those 4 are the reason this team is where its at. MDZ taking the single biggest giant leap forward in defensive play that I have ever seen from a defensive prospect, and MCD and Girardi establishing themselves as legitimate #1 defensemen....add in Staal and you have 3 true #1 defenseman on this team (imho)
