The Alexei Emelin Thread

This is ridiculous. Can the team's coach NOT be clueless about his own roster? Come on..

Emelin has been the 2nd best defenseman on the entire team over the last 4-6 weeks.

Glad we spent 5 years courting the guy so we could completely waste him and probably lose him for good at the end of the year. But wasting assets is this team's specialty, so there you have it.

Tony Marinaro said it best last week or the week before. He'd sit any defenseman not named Gorges ahead of Emelin at this point. It's true.

Subban hasn't been good, but you know he won't sit for whatever reason.
Gill's been terrible, but he wears the 'A' and is a leader, so he won't sit.
Diaz... is not a very good player.
Kaberle has been helping out on the powerplay, but what the team really needs is someone who can play defense.
Campoli has been okay since he came back, but I'd still put him behind Emelin on the depth chart.
Weber: see Diaz.

complain as much as you want but Emelin is too soft for this team, we need guys who can really hit and Emelin is not that. That is way tough guys like Diaz and Campoli get to play before him.
We need to keep the identity of this team, the toughest team to play against in NHL.

We'll take him off your hands if you have no use for him. I was shocked he was scratched Monday as I thought he was the best d-man on the ice that last time the B's and Habs met.

He has to play on the left side, that's the problem. The only guy who can move over would be Gorges(Gill and Kaberle play left all the time), but then you'd be separating Gorges-Subban.

Sadly, I can see him thriving in Boston and tormenting Habs players for years to come.

HEY CUNNEYWORTH! Smarten up!

Then separate Gorges and Subban. It's not like Subban's play over the past few games has been very good.

I just don't see the point of filling up your blueline with soft, small, puckmovers at the expense of someone who can bring something different to your team and, arguably, play better D than some of those aforementioned puckmovers (namely Diaz, IMO).

And it's not like Subban and Gill haven't deserved a benching at various times this year.

What's wrong with this team

Diaz and Campoli are the same kind of player. It's not hard to scratch Diaz.

And dont tell me that Emelin make costly mistake. Diaz , Campoli , Gill and Subban are ahead of him in this department .

Poor Emelin, this guy has potential, he can skate, hit and move the puck, of course he will make mistakes, its his first year in the league. I just hope we don't lose him because we have "no room". Campoli should be traded for a pick.

I get scared sometimes thinking Gauthier will keep trying to make a panic move and not want to trade players for picks to rebuild. In his head he probably thinks, if I do trade veterans for picks, than I am gone this summer for sure. I hope the Habs brass have a plan if the slide keeps going on, do you let Gauthier trade veterans for picks or do you find a replacement for him to continue clean-up.

I don't get what management sees in Diaz that they don't see in Emelin. Emelin does everything Diaz does and more...

Ah son of a *****, not again! What does the kid had to do to stay in the line-up? He has he perfect opportunity to play on the pp and set up Campoli too.

Cunneyworth wants a more aggressive system but leaves his most aggressive player upstairs. That's 1smart human being we have running our team.

On Monday after the game Therrien made a very good point. Assistant coaches usually think like the head coach or else why would the HC hire him.

Cunneyworth isn't that different from Martin. He made many of the decisions or he was in on the decisions. So what do you expect?

I'm a huge fan of Emelin and I want him to play, but I think it's a good idea to keep a little perspective about this.

At this time last year, Subban was coming off a few healthy scratches and scratched again before Christmas. Things can change a lot before a season ends, whether it's due to injuries, illness, slumps, player movement or a combination of the above. Emelin will get his chance soon.

Gorges is one of the few NHL defensemen who plays as well on the right side than on the left side. Slide him over on the right side and the problem is solved. I'd even play Emelin with him. They could develop into a formidable shut down pair and Gorges seems like the mentor Emelin would benefit from.

Emelin-Gorges
Subban-Gill
Campoli (or Diaz)-Kaberle
