Lol weren't the Rough Riders called the Senators for a few years? Kind of a trick question...

In a desperate attempt to bring Franco-Ottawans into the Senators fanbase, the Senators signed a French-Canadian out of the civil service league. They had passed over Aurèle Joliat a little while before.

Who was that player?

Sadly haven't had the opportunity to read it yet, BUT I do own a pretty big hockey history anthology. Complete guess here, but I'm gonna say Godin? It's either him or Boucher and I think Boosh was on the team before 1928.

I'm impressed! You're up.

The Bouchers were on the team before Godin, but I'm pretty sure that they weren't actually Francophones. I know that they had more Irish ancestry than French. Hozomer was really more of a ploy to make up for the fact that they passed over Joliat, feeling that they would be better off with a Francophone on the team.

As a side note, have you had a chance to read Michael Hiam's book on Eddie Shore yet? I highly recommend it if you haven't.

Interesting, didn't know that! Clearly skipping over Joliat was one of the best moves in the franchise's history, right up there with selling Clancy to freaking Toronto...

New question! How many goaltenders did John Muckler draft in his time with Ottawa, and what were their names?

I'm gonna say Chouinard (twice???) and Jeff Glass.

Glass is correct, Chouinard is not. He was drafted by Johnston in 2000 and Dudley in 1998.

I'm pretty sure that's the right answer.

Give us the next question or this thread will DIE.

I think I may just resurrect it once in a while during a GDT. Something fun to do during the intermissions.
