I don't think Koivu's number should be retired but it should've been honoured longer than one season.

And it certainly does not deserve to be tarnished by the worst player acquisition in forever.

I think Yvon Lambert should give Gomez a swift kick in the arse. He also wore #11 with pride and dedication.

Gomez should not even wear the Habs jersey.

I hate this kind of thread because it usually ends up with people bashing Koivu.

I hope it gets closed soon.

Koivu business aside, Gomez became brutal after changing to #11.

He should go back to #91. I agree.

Well, both Koivu and Muller wore #11 with distinction. Gomez, not so much.

Koivu won't get his number retired. It took them long enough to retire Larry Robinson's or Patrick Roy's.

Gomez upset the hockey Gods for wearing #11!

Love Koivu but it wouldn't be retired for him, still, Scott shouldn't have taken it so soon and the team shouldn't have given it to him.

1) We need to petition to get our old goal song back.
2) We need to petition for Gomez to get his old number back. #11 is cursed for him.

I really don't get why people think Koivu's number should be retired. We have HOFers who haven't been retired yet.

And what would the induction speech sound like?

- He led the team in scoring with 70 points
- He never won anything of any signficance
- He captained the team through it's darkest period and missed the playoffs a lot
- Although he was a good player he was never really great

Ladies and gentlemen, please give it up for Saku Koivu!

I'm sorry man... good ambassador for us. Great guy and definitely was the only thing worth watching on a lot of nights but that doesn't warrant a jersey retirement.

He shouldn't get number retired but I'd love if he got a role in the team.

Me too. Loved the guy and I'd love to see him have some role with the organization. He's definitely earned that.

I don't have a problem with it, but I think the change was a bit of a curse. He should go back to 91 until he starts producing (assuming he's coming back). Then he can "deserve" 11.

Oh man....THIS!!!

I guess I don't have to make the obvious joke since I'm assuming it would be at some assistant level. I would love for him to be the new Muller of the team.

To be fair, Kirk played all of 3 1/2 years with the Habs, we all remember him fondly for the Cup win which tends to skew things. And Gomez is no Koivu or no Muller.

He was too drunk to know he played hockey, let alone to know what number he wore.
