Alright, I'm not picking on you specifically, it's just that you're like the 48th person to mention that "Marc Staal is an all-star". True, he's made the all-star team once, but that's far different than him likely being a perennial NHL all-star, which certainly seems to be what is being implied by some (again, not saying you) posters.
Look, the fact is Staal made the All-Star team largely based on a very stellar first half of the season, cant take that away from him, but he tailed off greatly after that all-star nomination.
He had 6 goals and was a +12 at the All-Star break (solid, yes), but finished the year with 7 goals and was only +8. Yeah, I know he's not and offensive Dman, but O-numbers rightly or wrongly often matter for a Dman's ASG selection, and finished -4 on the 2nd half of the entire season, and then proceeded to go -3 in the playoffs.
His offensive production came to a screetching halt, but the fact is that could be said for our entire team after the break. There were an AWFUL few months there. In addition, we have learned since (much to our frustration) that Marc was concussed, and still playing nearly half a game every night.
His plus minuses are more indicative of the team around him than himself, if I may. The Rangers couldn't buy a goal after the break, and lost in 5 games in the playoffs. If Marc had managed to keep an even plus minus while losing 4 games and winning 1, I'd call him a genie.

I'm a mere 21 years of age and openly admit that marriage should be reserved as a punishment for shoplifting in some, less fortunate countries, though the rivalry and games become that much more interesting when after your team scores a goal, you have to console the other person and assure them "It's really a good game though."

Yeah, it was before I was going to games on a consistent basis (I became a fan in 86). But honestly, the Garden back then was a LOT crazier. It truly was dangerous to be an opposing fan of a rival back then. The way it is in Prudential during Rangers-Devils games reminds me of those days sometimes.

Haha..yes, I've heard similar stories as well from my dad. I actually got to experience a few of those games in the "old" blue seats before the 90's renovation, and boy oh boy were those fun! If memory serves me correctly, the first game I ever went to there, about 10 minutes in one of the refs made a call against the Rangers that multiple scary looking, long haired men disagreed with. Well they proceeded to scream at the ref that they were going to **** his wife later that night as punishment for said call!

Been going to Rangers games since 77 and no, it was for Hextall. Lindberg had already passed on. It would make no sense to chant at Hextall for Pelly to drive a porsche.

As for Larsson vs Staal, I think I'm seeing some Devils fans massively underrating Staal beacuse of his lackluster offensive numbers, and I also see an 18 year old who's touted as an offensive defensemen being compared to a 24 year old shut down defenseman.
Adam Larsson wasn't touted as a offensive defenseman, his decent numbers so far must come as a bit of a surprise. He had 9 points in 37 games in SEL last year and 13 points in 33 games in NHL this year. As we all now NHL is a better league...
He was described as a twoway d-man, he has had his ups and downs this season as expected for a player playing the year after his draft. His strenght in the longrun is supposed to be his defensive play not his offense.
Time will tell if he reaches Staals level of play or surpas it.
