Montreal would love to unload a lot of their garbage on the Blue Jackets.
Scott Gomez (@$7.3m with 2 yrs left) might be the most overpaid and useless player in hockey. Michael Cammalleri (@$6m with 2yrs left) plays as soft as a baby's bottom and hasn't been producing. Brian Gianta (another $5/6 m player) has shown very little this season. He is the Captain and moving him would definitely be an eye-raiser.
Montreal would love to move any or all of these guys. Forwards with some value to the Blue Jackets with whom Montreal might part would be Andrei Kostitsyn and David Desharnais (a pint-sized former Cincinnati Cyclone).
The Canadiens are not going to move Subban-he's their future potential defensive gem. However, they'd love to give you Kaberle (softee making $4m with 2yrs left) or Campoli or Gill.
Any movement between the two teams will probably be nothing more than "If you take my problems, then I'll take yours". However, given how poorly both of these teams have performed this season, it's possible that a real blockbuster involving "untouchables" could occur. Both GMs are in desperation modes to hold on to their jobs, so a possible trade could go far beyond a simple garbage out/garbage in transaction.
One Jacket who would likely be part of any major deal would be the "Wiz". His run with Montreal wasn't all that bad and the fans seem to idealize his tenure there.

Remember that the Jackets have no cap room when looking at all of those players you would like to dump off.
Care to explain? Vermette is overpaid and useless on this team. If we get Gorges and throw a nice number at him, he might stay. Not to mention we get rid of dead weight in Clitsome/Johnson/Martinek. Plus we have a shot at a possible pretty good dman who has a cannon. But obviously we shouldnt do this because....?

Vermette is not useless he is better the third line center than Letestu or especially Brassard and he can play a wing. He can play PK, when it needs PP too, he can win FO, only right use this playerGeorges is UFA where is written that he would resign?
I would trade Brassard he is useless!!! He can play a center - a playmaker. He isnt good in the defesne as the number Vermette-Letestu, he cannot play a wing... only in the TOP 6 wher we have better centers only our coach must find courage to stay Johansen there.
There's this thing called the cap and they are up against it. We ain't unloading for picks. Got another theory?
Yeah. I've got a pretty good theory about snarky internet personalities and overcompensation. But it's just a theory and I'm sure you wouldn't be interested.
Lee, agreed. The Habs are up against the cap, so it would have to be money for money. And the "money" they'd like to get rid of is not appealing, even to the worst team in the league (at least I hope so.)
