OT here, but just for interest sake, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtLI6aI7U80 (sorry, wasn't sure how to embed it) at the 0:16 mark has an incredible hip check. I wanted to find one by Brad Park, great Rangers defenseman who threw more of them than anybody, at least that I knew of. A few players used to throw these, not so much anymore.

Yeah, that's not really a good thing..

Last year I had concerns about our ability to win games without a skills contest, because the playoffs don't include it. We were out in the first round. And guess what, we had 2 OTLs in the playoffs.

I'd rather have the rangers get 95 points with a minimal # of them coming from SO wins and OTLs, rather then 105 points with a ton of shootout wins and OTLs, because an OTL in the playoffs isn't worth jack ****.

Not sure what everyone's getting at regarding Richards. First of all, we knew going in that he wasn't a dominant center like Crosby - he's much more of a subtle player and when his subtle plays don't result in goals, his performance his performance comes off as, well... subtle. Second, he just missed on a couple of his patented slappers - had one of those gone in, we wouldn't be hearing these comments. Third, while I like Hagelin a lot and think he could very well have top 6 upside similar to Callahan's eventually, Richards would really, really benefit from having an accomplished finisher on his LW, particularly one that has pure offensive talent to complement Callahan's solid meat and potatoes game.

I don't see an injury or anything else - just a bit of a slump. And, hey - that is only encouraging as far as this team goes. If we can win without having to rely on Richards to carry the team, that's a good thing and only points to a level of talent and depth we haven't enjoyed in quite a while.

Stepan even made it in ESPN's Top 10 plays with his tip-in at #2. Hockey was actually 3 of the top 10 plays on sportscenter tonight. wow.

A couple things sort of in closing...

1. Del Zotto is having a good statistical season and has stepped to the plate in a year which everyone had him in hartford. 19 in 33 (had 11 in 47 last year) with a +22.

2. The Rangers are asking a little much of Hagelin a little early. He is good as a 3rd line gunner. This playing with Richards thing isn't helping him or Brad.

3. Rangers adjusted right away to the physical game and turned it on the Flyers. Good cycling from both teams but we got the edge tonight with some solid deflections and springing Gaborik.

Didn't watch the game though I saw someone earlier mentioned something about Gaborik getting hurt. I'm assuming he's fine right?

He got slashed on the shoulder when he scored on the breakaway.

I'm assuming he's okay because he played the rest of the game and there hasn't been any injury news.

Was slashed right as he scored on his breakaway. Went down afterwards holding his shoulder, was seen on the bench and then was back on the ice later on. Believe I heard Torts say he was fine and uninjured. From what I saw, probably just a bruise on the shoulder from a slash. Nothing more.

So should we have Feds or Mr. 2 goals on the left side? Granted Dubi's been playing well, but he's not the sniper Richards needs either.

It doesn't need to be either, though I would prefer Dubinsky.

I think Wolski will get a shot at that spot.

He took a slash to the left shoulder/collar bone area after his breakaway goal, but he returned to action later. Gave us all a scare, the way he was squirming on the bench.

Yeah, I was scared for a bit there, glad he's fine. Congrats on being the leading goal scorer in the NHL as well

So mad I missed this one.

Just saw the highlights and looked like it was an awesome game. See Del Zotto with another 2 points and Gabby takes the league lead in goals.

Agreed. However... If we run into a team like Boston in the playoffs, without a healthy defense we could possibly get annihilated pretty easily. We would need Staal Sauer and Eminger to be healthy to compete with them because right now as I see it out of the entire NHL our biggest competition is them.

As far as Hagelin is concerned, you may be right but at this point in time the kid has succeeded on every line he has played on so I think they are just getting feelers out with him. His speed creates such problems for other teams.

Yeah, but winning a shootout helps them wayyyyy more then losing in it.

It's the same damn formula every time. One of Parise or Kovalchuk (or both) always scores, and the goalie stands on their head.

I saw that, but I thought they meant 3 in a row against the Islanders.

Here's a gem from the flyers board

Quote:
why can't we beat the ****ing rangers???
Quote:
Because this game means next to nothing. The Rangers won't make the playoffs, it's an exercise in nothing.
A Team that nearly shut you out for 3 straight games isn't going to make the playoffs eh?

Ahh i see, I didn't get to watch the 2nd game against NYI at the colliseum so i thought we only played them 2 times thus far.

Nevermind, lets go 3 in a row.

So all games against teams that aren't going to make the playoffs mean nothing?

BTW, I remember reading a post on the Flyers board after our 2-0 win, where a Flyers fan said they would destroy us, once the Flyers will be healthy. Well this game the Flyers were the healthier team...
