Let the Lundqvist love fest continue. I'll continue to exercise caution.
Three points I want to make.
NHL > SEL
Turco > Lundqvist
Theordore > Lundqvist
Your mileage may vary.
You forgot that Hasek and Cujo are still God.
Now, my question for everyone that feels we should send Ward back down to Lowell...what do we do for a backup? Who do we replace him with, because all of our other goalies are "rookies" so to say also...Do we pick up someone? Do you think sending him back down to Lowell will help boost his confidence any?
....and nothing dims these stars.
I still think that Cam will be fine. Afterall, he is not the only one on the team that is facing some challenges right now. I'd rather have JR invest some effort and money in finding a suitable replacement for Big Joe, instead of an available backup goalie who wasn't good enough to back up that other team.
as much as I hate to say it, he might have a point in that Ward could use more starting time down in Lowell rather then playing the backup role here in Carolina. I personally would have no problem offering Archie a one year deal to back up and be able to give us 20 games or so, though I'm not sure how much the team would like that.
The problem with that is that up until a couple days ago, Vitaly Kolesnik was the starter in Lowell.
Now, however, it looks like Kolesnik might end up in Colorado full time. So this would be the perfect time to demote Ward and get him a bunch of starts.
Ward looked great at the beginning of the year, but as the OP alluded to, he needs to be the starter. The problem with that is that Gerber has been too good for Ward to start.
So unless the Canes move Gerber, Ward needs to be in the AHL. Having him play so infrequently is wasting his talent and ability.
Nobody said Lundqvist was better than Theodore or Turco....what was said was that Lundqvist posted better #'s than Theodore and Turco last season in the SEL. I don't have the #'s so I can't say if it's true or not, but Lundqvist was domiant last season so it wouldn't surprise me.
But, you make a statement that Lundqvist will "fall apart", is there any speical reason or just making a comment out of your ***? I don't have a problem, we all have our opinons, but from what Lundqvist has done over in Sweden and what he's done in the NHL doesn't hold well for the falling apart arguement. But, I'm not making Lundqvist out to be Hasek, Brodeur, or Roy because that's just foolish when he's only started 15+ games at the age of 23 without a full season under his belt.
But anyhow, I didn't mean to make this thead about Lundqvist, just saw the comment and had to respone.
Patrik Lalime is on waivers. I doubt he will get picked up, but if he is sent down then re-called he could be picked up on re-entry waivers at half the price. His yearly salary is $2.24M. Might we take a chance on him to work out as our backup? There would be no pressure on him here, and he can slowly build up his confidence for another team next year.
I know Ward is having his problems now, and I know he will turn it around. Still, I'm not keen on taking a rookie backup goaltender into the playoffs.
