if Couturier doesnt have a concussion I will be very shocked. That was quite the shot he took. That said, i would hold him out until after Christmas.

Per @davegisaac & @BroadStBull, Couturier also upgraded to day to day.

I really hope we get some better news on Schenn. It's been nothing but bad?

No surprise: Couturier and Schenn will not play in NY on Fri., Homer says.

Dec 23: Couturier and Schenn skated in Voorhees not with the team in New York.

Quote:
On the Brayden Schenn front, Holmgren announced that he skated and did his off ice conditioning again today and has made good strides. His status is now day-to-day.

As is Sean Couturier, who also skated today and did his off ice conditioning.

It was never defined as a concussion. He passed the initial concussion test issued.

Don't think he is yet. He practiced today, but had on a no contact jersey and Schenn took shifts with the 4th line.

Briere says he will play today.

Schenn also looks probable to play (probably 4th line duties unfortunately).

And it looks like Erik Gustafsson may also play... he was cleared for contact and practiced w/ the team yesterday.

December 26-27

Quote:
Sean Couturier, was the only one wearing the yellow, "non-contact" jersey in practice. Couturier began skating again on Dec. 23 for the first time since being hit in the helmet with a Kimmo Timonen slap shot on Dec. 17.

He has never actually been diagnosed with a concussion, but Couturier is likely to remain out at least through tonight's game.

"We're going day-by-day," Couturier said. "Last Friday was just the first time in a week, and I felt off-balance a little bit. I feel better now. It depends on how my head reacts."

Wouldn't doubt if he had some bad headaches from that.

December 29:

Couturier back in the lineup tonight in place of Rinaldo. Harry Z stays in.

From Tim P:

Quote:
Tonight against the Penguins, Couturier returns to the Flyers lineup after missing four games with a bruised head.

Couturier was struck by a shot from teammate Kimmo Timonen that afternoon against the Boston Bruins. Incredibly, instead of sustaining a concussion, the puck hit him above the left arm on his helmet, leaving him bruised and very sore with two stitches to close a wound.

“When it happened, I didn’t think about it being a concussion and I didn’t feel too bad but it was still painful,” he said.

What raised the alarms bells, however, was a ringing sensation in his left ear and lack of hearing that he said didn’t seem to get better over the next several days.

On 24/7, Couturier said he didn't have a concussion and passed all the tests, but said he still had trouble hearing out of that ear. I think all of us medical genius fans tend to think head injury = concussion, but that's not always the case. Just because he doesn't have a concussion, or at least not a typical one, doesn't take away from the fact that he got nailed in the head.

It'll be good to see him back out there.

We. Are. Healthy?

Talbot goes back to wing now, right?

Hartnell - Rouxxxx - Jagr
Simmonds - Briere - Read
JVR - Schenn - Voracek
Harry Z - Couturier - Talbot

I'm assuming the lines will look like that tonight. Which would be fantastic.

If those were the lines I would shart my pants with glee. Schenn really needs to play down the middle to be effective. It's going to be hard to break up Voracek and talbot, but Schenn could be the perfect centre.
