I still believe

I don't believe this team is as bad as their record and I think it is all in their heads. I know they can be better and they know they can be better. I think this break will help them and if they can string together a few wins and hold on until we get some bodies back I think we can make it. The sens game is huge though. So huge.

I always believe.

There is no way the Habs don't make the playoffs this year. 0% chance of missing the post-season.

I'm thinking we'll be picking around the late teens and hopefully Cody Ceci will be ours.

I don't know what's better:

aiming high with chance of disappointment
or aiming low with chance of a pleasant surprise.

Make the playoffs, tank, I really don't mind either way. Getting a top pick would be exciting. I always look at the big picture one season or two isn't really important to me in the grand scheme of things, but if they tank and don't yield results it's the ultimate slap in the nuts.

This team could easily make the playoffs though. I think people are underestimating what could happen if we start to win. Other teams will start losing.

Multiple things that could happen for the positive in the next little while:

-Price could continue to be good and then even better
-PK might have a solid 2nd half like last season
-The general might come back and be healthy, I'm one of the few who feels this may happen and he may be 100%. Whenever they've shown Markov recently he's been the most built I've ever seen him in his career. He's clearly taken to doing any kind of practice/exercise he was capable of after that horrific knee injury. This is a guy who loves this city, wants to win and is a superstar. Having him back at 100% will be good even if it's just next year.
-Kaberle we actually have a guy who could help us have two deadly PP units when Markov does come back. I think we're a better fit for him than Boston and Carolina we just aren't playing like the team we actually are.

Many of these things are possibilities. Having a D lineup of something like this:

Markov-Emelin
Subban-Gorges
Kaberle-Gill
Weber (Diaz AHL/bench/traded for pick)
Campoli (dealt for a pick instead even)

Personally I don't believe we were really after Campoli all along. He seems like a very bad fit thus far. Maybe it's just the struggles of coming back from an injury and I hope it is, but this guy hasn't impressed me thus far. I have hope for the team but at the end of the day if we tank I won't be mad. No 9th to 11th place please

I'd be so happy if we landed Grigorenko though. That guy is a beast.

Exactly... at that point I would want a managements head But no doubt a healthy Markov could transform this team. Believe it or not I think this is the best team Markov has ever had to play with, we just aren't playing well.

I'm another one of these stupid optimists. My brain's saying, "Dude (yes, I address myself as 'dude'), it's not happening this year...", but the moment the puck is dropped, my emotions take over and I'm thinking, "OF COURSE WE CAN WIN!! THIS GAME, NEXT GAME, EVERY GAME!! WIN WIN WIN WIN!!" This usually works until the third period when we blow a lead, at which point my brain gently takes my emotions by the hand and leads them back to bed with a few comforting words and an anti-depressant.

He is a beast.

But be happy with Cody Ceci (hopefully) and the playoffs, because that's what you're going to get.

Campoli is crap. Gill is way slower this year. Kaberle is weak on D. Weber/Diaz have so many flaws we hope they can get any kind of draft picks back for them. Emelin has had stretches of bad games. Markov hasn't even played this year. Subban has been extremely sloppy this year and has even been a healthy scratch. Does that seem like a D squad that will go far in the playoffs? lol

This team has to be gutted and we require high draft picks to restock our weak set of prospects coming up. We are pretty much at the cap limit already with almost no chance of getting rid of Gomez for the next couple of years. This team would be smart to accumulate high picks that could be ready to join the big show in 2-3 years time. I'm sick of being mediocre, it hasn't won us a cup in almost 20 years, that's not acceptable. Status quo = is not working..

Journalist: Any downside in trading your top-pick for a veteran in the twillight of his career?

PG: No downside. Only opportunities !
