''Trading our 1st rounder will position this club to have a strong 2nd half and... Mister Souray has played here before, knows our system, and his contribution will mostly help us improve our 2nd half... ''
The title of this thread is the same as the ending/punchline of the song "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer?" ("as for me and grandpa, we believe").
Not much of a mantra for a Hab fan.
''We turned every rock, examined every opportunity...''
PG: "Finishing outside the playoffs is not an option. We have good prospect depth, so we have the ability to move picks for players that can help us now. I'd like to take the opportunity to welcome Mr. Redden and Mr. Hagman to Montreal and best of luck to Mr. Leblanc, Mr. Tinordi and Mr. 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Oh...I threw in a 4th too."

"Mr. Redden brings experience and will help our powerplay. We feel very confident going forward with his salary. We feel the price of experience is at a premium and Mr. Redden will provide us with great depth and experience moving forward. On that note, I'd like to announce the acquisition of Mr. DiPietro. It was unfortunate we had to trade Mr. Price but we feel DiPietro's cap friendly long term contract will be of great use to us going forward. Mr. DiPietro is a former 1st overall pick and we feel he will bounce back in montreal and he should be injury free, along with markov, in about 2 weeks."
Could we just for once, finish amongst the worst teams so we can finally draft that superstar player we have all been craving for for years?
Do you really prefer that we barely make the playoffs, get eliminated in the first round and draft an "okay" player or miss the playoffs just for this year and come back next year (or in two years) with a vengeance with our new superstar forward à la Grigorenko?

Campoli is crap. Gill is way slower this year. Kaberle is weak on D. Weber/Diaz have so many flaws we hope they can get any kind of draft picks back for them. Emelin has had stretches of bad games. Markov hasn't even played this year. Subban has been extremely sloppy this year and has even been a healthy scratch. Does that seem like a D squad that will go far in the playoffs? lol
This team has to be gutted and we require high draft picks to restock our weak set of prospects coming up. We are pretty much at the cap limit already with almost no chance of getting rid of Gomez for the next couple of years. This team would be smart to accumulate high picks that could be ready to join the big show in 2-3 years time. I'm sick of being mediocre, it hasn't won us a cup in almost 20 years, that's not acceptable. Status quo = is not working..
Maybe those "crybabies" are just realist? If they are "crybabies", then perhaps you are the blind fanboy?
To make the playoffs, Habs will need to play, at the very least, 0.610 -- win 28 games out of 46; 10 more wins than losses.
The "crybabies" I'm refering too are obviously those who went way overdramatic about the recent failures of the team.
Your numbers are actually making playoffs chances realistic.
Spitting on a chance to make the playoffs because they need a 0.610 2nd half of season is not the kind of attitude I'm expecting of players, neither the fans.
I've said it before, the so called "realistic" fans are giving themselves a win-win situation. A win if the team indeed ends up not making the playoffs, and then brag about how they were right not to have believed in their team. A win if the teams ends up being better than they thought, then celebrating with those who believed from the start. Too often, the term "realistic" means "scared pissed off fan". I'd call it "desperate hockey knowledge self-gratification"
The negative fans don't have the right to claim they are being more realistic that those who think they have a good chance to make the playoffs.
Just not at this stage of the season.

I don't know if I still believe, but I sure do wanna...
I mean, if they'd go on a 20 game winning streak starting tonight and get the lead in the division, I'd strip naked and streak down the Dix30 in celebration.
