This would make sense.

Assuming this is only for 1 year, this is a good move if we acquire him. Hopefully Madden can hold down a roster spot until some of the forwards get healthy again.

Healthy and old, he's still better than Repik, Dadonov, Cullen, Kennedy, Kearns, Bradley, and Barch. Man, this team is icing a crappy line-up! Please come back, hurt Panthers!

There's a reason he's still a free agent.

isn't the guy like 40 yrs old? I remember he use to be a good PK killer and good in the faceoff circle... I'd rather role the dice with our AHL guys

No comparison, just age... a player can still excel at 40 years old. Period.

After watching all of the call-up guys tonight play with so much terrific effort and determination to help get the win, I'd say to pass. We're fine.

Madden's better than a lot of the callups. He's a veteran who can PK. People were saying the same things about Sturm and he's been valuable for us in that area of the game.

We need some guys who can PK right now. With all the recent injuries, we're really struggling on the PK lately.

Really liked Madden in Minnesota; great PK guy, rarely makes mistakes, and is great defensively.

I doubt any team picking him up for cheap would be disappointed.

He's 38 and he scored 12 goals last year. We have guys playing that won't score 12 this year. Low risk, high reward. Do it.

Correct. I wasn't able to and glad I didn't. Once I saw the score later on last Friday night, I didn't bother to watch the highlights. I'm assuming that it was the complete opposite of tonight?

Ok, I'll withdraw my statement there. Maybe give Madden a try if he'll be such an asset on the PK.

Yeah, it was one of the worst Panthers games I have watched since I started following them. I actually turned the game off, (not that i'm a fair weather fan) but I couldn't help to see them lose that bad. Madden could help us, I promise that.

I'm same as you. I was out for Christmas drinks with friends at the bar, drunk, and saw the score. Continued to get much, MUCH more drunk. Almost got in a scrap because Leaf fans were lipping the me about the score, and a Bruins fan of all people got me settled down, basically by saying "it's just one game".

I'd be OK with the signing. Sounds like guys are close to coming back, so don't really see the need, especially with so many of our call-ups playing real good right now (I'm not talking about you Dadanov)

Absolutely! I'd be down to take another guy who surely knows what it takes to win a championship.

Drager tweeting the buzz is still alive on this ... Can't happen till this Pm... Like many I'm torn as I like our kids but a proven defensive minded winner just can't hurt.

Nothing to be torn about, so long as it's only a one year deal. I think around four Rampage guys a game suffices, don't you?

Twitter talk of Panthers signing John Madden. Tallon remains undecided, but may need the help with so many injuries.

Madden is a no brainer, if they can sign him. Quality vet who knows how to win, would be the perfect second line center fill in and long term (season) third or fourth liner and PK specialist. Good on draws as well. When he wsa younger, he was the best PK man in the league, and can still produce. Not sure why he hasn't been signed but unless he is hurt who cares. Even when our guys come back, he will still be in the mix for important ice time.
