Rumblings (Columbus Trades? Hemsky Suitors? Carolina waits until Deadline?)

Some interesting stuff in Pierre LeBrun's latest column.

Quote:
"We haven’t played well in the last 2-3 weeks and it’s given us a little bit more clarity," Howson told ESPN.com.

So, trades are coming.

"We’re going to be open to discussions, yes," Howson said. "There’s nothing imminent right now, I don’t have anything on the burner right now. But certainly between now and over the next couple of months, we’re going to be very active, yes."
Quote:
"I have no intention of trading Jeff [Carter] at this point," Howson said.
Along with Brassard, LeBrun also suggest the following will be available
Quote:
the likes of Vaclav Prospal, Sammy Pahlsson and Kristian Huselius
I could see Pahlsson fetching the highest return of those three because I could see a handful of playoff teams who would love to have him. For some reason, I can see one of Pahlsson or Huselius going to Los Angeles.

Quote:
If the Darryl Sutter renaissance is successful in L.A. and the Kings are in a playoff spot come February, it wouldn’t surprise me if they came sniffing around on Hemsky again.
Quote:
Another club that could come calling on Hemsky is Detroit. The Red Wings have cap space and will be an aggressive team come the trade deadline. They’ll look at all kinds of options but I believe Hemsky will be among the names on their shopping list.
The problem for Edmonton is what kind of value does Hemsky have? He's constantly injured, and even when he isn't, he looks disinterested this year, like he's afraid of getting hurt. I think he'll get moved, though, especially because I don't think Tom Renney and him are on the same page.

Quote:
the catch for the Hurricanes right now, however: they can’t just go ahead with straight-up salary dumps in January in any trade because it risks moving them below the payroll floor. According to capgeek.com, the ‘Canes are at $51.4 million in payroll with the league’s floor set at $48.3 million this year.
Quote:
If they decide to wait right until the Feb. 27 trade deadline, by then the cap hit (and payroll hit) should be minimized, so they can go ahead and make any kind of deal they want.

Would Detroit be willing to part with Kindl for Hemsky? Or am I over-valuing Hemmer or Under valuing Kindl?

I'd love for Philly to get Pahlsson. How is he on faceoffs?

In before the analysis of the Jeff Carter quote and this turns into a Jeff Carter trade proposal thread.

LeBrun speculates that while Howson says he's off the table, it won't stop other GMs from making offers on him.

Actually the bolded came several posts before yours.

As a Caps fan, I'd be interested in exploring the Columbus options.

Before anyone gets to excited you need to realize Howson will most likely not be the one making any trades. Most believe he will be fired long before the trade deadline and probably just after the first of the year. If he is still around then little hope is left for the entire CBJ organization.

Really? I'd think that if he were going to be fired during the season, it would have happened already.

Depending on the return I can see the Canes moving Gleason as soon as Pitkanen's ready to return. If they get a young guy that can play on their roster they won't lose much cap floor wise since Gleason's hit is only 2.75

Does Detroit have room on its IR list for Hemsky?

I doubt Howson will be fired during this season. How many teams are looking for #1 centres and he actually landed one. Just turned out that the number one centre is a lil *****. Should have been magic with him and Nash

Curious to see what the Oilers will get for Hemsky, considering how injury prone the guy is. He's a risky, yet talented, player to take a gamble on.

I'm fairly certain Detroit does NOT want Hemsky... We have our play makers, we want the guy that Datsyuk can set up for.

Jeff Carter isn't going anywhere, and neither is Nash.

Just sayin.

Dude we've been saying same thing about Getzlaf yet people still flood HF with proposals. People just want to fantasize about getting to play with people like Nash, Getz, etc on their NHL game or just on their favorite team regardless. So do yourself a favor and don't get hung up on it cause people will never listen. I agree with you and feel your pain. Just don't get caught up in it here. People are just plain ignorant sometimes at this site...

I can see Toronto being interested in Jeff Carter (if/when he's available) and Samuel Pahlsson.

Pahlsson would be huge for Toronto on the PK and playing on that fourth line.

If Carter is involved, I could see the Maple Leafs parting with Nazem Kadri in a package.
