Does no one read my posts? Am I blocked by everyone? "Happy Holidays" didn't start out politically correct, at all. It was to cover multiple holidays at once: Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving. It became a handy way to include Jewish folks as well (and US metro areas, particularly NYC and Boston, have large Jewish populations) when it suited to include other people. Kwanzaa or whatever got added in as well when that holiday started up, and I've seen it used to include Chinese New Year as well.

There's a big grey area between "politically correct" and convenient amalgamation of multiple holidays. To me, it's the whole levelling of the playing field, as though all such observances are of equal socioreligious weight, that appears like such a stretch. One could argue that Hanukkah is a relatively minor Jewish holiday that got bumped up in the face of Christmas. And Kwanzaa (Wikipedia alert!), based on the African celebration of first fruits, was purported to have been established in 1966 as "an alternative to Christmas, that Jesus was psychotic, and that Christianity was a white religion that black people should shun."

My beef with the politically correct lawyers is that they twist the first amendment into something its not.

Freedom of speech, is just that. It's not freedom from hearing something you don't like. (the basis coming from being thrown in jail if you said something bad about the king).

To me, it's no different than we you play God Bless America at a Flyers game, many of the players are not from the US or even religious, so they put their heads down and do their own thing. If someone wants to have a moment of silence, or in NASCAR a pre-race prayer, you have the freedom to not participate.

Somewhere along the last 50 years we went from "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" to completely the opposite. And hence, downhill we've gone.

Yeah, I find all of that to be astonishing and depressing. The "Attention *****" phase of society can't end soon enough. I blame all the parents who raised their kids to believe they were all precious, unique, special, entitled, flowery-beautiful snowflakes.

As a kid growing up, I used to spend a good amount of time every year in the Phillyish area. It makes me sad that I only get back to Malvern/Paoli once a year now...and that I have to stay in a hotel to do so. That's dumb. I'm getting drunk anyways, though, so all is well in the Beefiverse.

so long as ESPN is around the internet is around it will never end. Speaking of children I cannot get over how disrespectfull kids seem to be. i see the way kids talk to their parents, to adults and its seemingly brushed off.
I would have got my butt kicked if I talked the way some of these kids do when I was young.
