Great read, Gann!!

Like you said, a bit mind-boggling to see Mitchell be so well-informed for someone who is not a doctor, but i can imagine I would also do the same--research, research, research.

You should definitely post this to the main board/concussion threads.

Good read! Custom fitted helmets make sense.

What's interesting is that they already do this for goalies, and they don't take impact that the regular skaters do. But I'd be curious to know how many players wear ill-fitted helmets to begin with because it's more "comfortable".

thanks for that - great read. Glad someone with that kind of intelligence and skill is on our team and teaching our younger players. Coaching material?

Some thoughts:

1) Custom helmets - surprised players aren't doing this right now.

2) Clutch and grab - it's always bothered me that opponents can come flying in and just bust the player beside a teammate now - should there be an adjustment to this rule that allows teammates to protect their defensemen - especially to reduce the speed when running the D? I don't want to remove that tactic - it is valid - just trying to reduce the impact.

Here's Mitchell giving Toews 6 car wrecks in one hit

Toews missed a few games with a concussion.

Later that season Malkin put Mitchell into the boards ending his season with a concussion. I wonder if Mitchell still goes for that hit today, after all he's gone through with his own concussion issues.
