I think he'll play out his season here. Unless he is awesome in the playoffs and gets us to the ECF or further, he'll sign somewhere else next year. If he turns out to be a beast in the playoffs I can see the Caps trying to retain him.

Dwayne Roloson 2.0
I don't see him back next year, he's playing for a final payday, one he might not get due to our porous defense.
At this point, it's highly unlikely that McPhee makes a push to retain Vokoun or that Vokoun particularly wants to stay here. A few months from now, who knows.

you gotta be kidding.....while the team D has not been good....the goaltending has been awful.
A top goalie, which is what he is supposed to be, can bail out mistakes here and there. If he werent letting soft goals in on a regular basis you might be on to something. As it stands, he looks slow, his rebound control terrible, and in general...a player who just doesnt have a lot of confidence. Hopefully he finds it soon
It was interesting to hear last night that 28 other teams had no interest in him. I'll say this, he has looked shakier than any Caps goalie in a while. Frankly I think we need to get Holtby up and playing, he's looked better than any of them really.
Holtby put up much better numbers in the NHL than AHL last year. yes i know we are talking 14 games v 30. Still a significant sample size.
Makes no sense as to why, but it happened.
Yes. I know the numbers may not look good, but he has an on ice quality about him that I like.
The way the goalie situation has gone, what do they have to lose by bringing him up and give it a go? Better now than wait til near the end of the season.
I disagree. I think the last thing the team needs now is any hint of instability in net. Throwing a new guy into the mix does nothing to build trust or confidence.

So has the entire team. I think TV is just like the rest of the team. A short stretch of quality play could reestablish their confidence and they'd be off and running. It's just not happening right now for some reason.

I've been thinking this for about a week now. Yes Holtby hasn't put up anything special in Hershey but is he really gonna be any worse than Vokoun and Neuvy have been? I really think it's time to give Holtby a shot and see how he does.
Vokoun's sitting at #25 in save percentage among qualified NHL goalies right now, but his .913 is pretty close to being NHL average (which I think was .916 last season, IIRC). Neuvirth is 44th of 46 qualifying goalies, with only Roloson and Mason being worse.
Considering their numbers, and the fact that Vokoun is typically a slow starter, I really hope Hunter rides Vokoun for the bulk of the remaining games.
Didn't somebody post a while ago that Holtby couldn't be brought up for cap reasons? Is that still the case?
With Eakin down it probably isn't anymore (almost exactly the same cap hit) but with Beagle back and Green on the cusp they'd need a roster spot somewhere.
