Bearable because it's a dry cold up there. Montreal dampness does make it tougher to deal with.
Grew up in Arvida and spent whole weeks playing outside at -20 or more in the days when most parents thought fresh air was good for kids. These days if you send your kid out in the winter the neigbours'll call DPJ.
Great place to grow up. Rinks frozen by late November and stayed that way until almost April. Left almost 40 years ago and keep meaning to get back but have not yet.

I live in Arvida, near the ''rond-point'' on boulevard saguenay.
For a guy who loves winter more then summer, Saguenay is a great place to be.
Rinks frozen by mid-to-late december now
Except if it stays this cold the city workers won't go to the rinks to flood them, and if it's too hot the water won't melt. If we keep having this bipolar weather we're never gonna get to play outside!!!

Looks like that's the pattern that's setting in for the winter. It's supposed to be above freezing by the weekend and back to frigid a few days later.
The 14 day trend graph looks like a roller coaster ride.
