The code is BS created in the early 1990s by enforcers so they could fight 40 times a year without getting injured.

Watch fights from the 1970s, plenty of angry fighting with players hitting each other when down.

The sooner this code BS leaves hockey, the more entertaining it will be.
I rest my case.

And you call me sanctimonious? You are trying to justify blatant code-breaking offenses by your beloved Bruins! LOL

Oh i forgot, the Bruins are immune to having to play within the code of conduct when it comes to fighting.
Oh stop it now. You should worry more about the Habs' lottery pick this spring.

Not everyone can be as classy and useless as George Laraque when he was in Montreal.

Where was the "code of conduct" there?

Thats because it had not been created yet.

You are bringing up a bench clearing brawl from the 80's?

Here is a demonstration of the code in effect!

I would have had no problem if he would have nailed Krejci when on the ground, you enter a fight you deserve what you get.

Like I said before, this code BS is a joke that was created by enforcers so they could fight 40 times a year.

If players finished off guys the way you are suggesting, fighting would be banned from the sport. Think about the liability issues... There is a reason why the code is in place.

So the league put the code in place?

I would much rather see what McQuaid did that this disgusting display by Shawn Thornton

Yes, which, as a Habs fan, should be your queue to exit the conversation.

No, I like to see fights that are real and out of anger, like McQuaides, than fake side shows.

That's how 75% of every Wendel Clark fight ended. And I liked Clark.

It doesn't work like that. Players don't want to kill (or injure) each other hence the code. Without it you would have "Don Sanderson" incidents where guys lose their life at 21.

Look i'm all for fighting in the league. My son who plays in the Dub fights occasionally. But there is a line to be drawn. When you have a guy down you stop. There is no point in risking serious injury. Afterall, its supposed to be a game - and for some a living.

Some might say - well then don't drop the gloves. But in this game, often times you aren't given a choice due to the pressure from coaches and the expectations (to defend yourself and / or your teammate).

If the "code" didn't exist then this sport would be in jeapardy. Those who love to watch fighting would have to resort to boxing/UFC.

I wonder if Habs fans fantasize of having a team that would defend a teamate after a cheap shot?
