I really hope for Chris' well-being that the staph isn't a strain of MRSA. Its been a major problem in hospitals over the few years. He's one of my favourite players, and I'm sure he's a great guy too. It sucks to see someone in that kind of pain but he should take some relief in the fact Vancouver has some of the best surgeons in the country and if it comes down to a palmar fasciotomy or irrigation and debridement, he's in the best hands possible.
I know its quite a common thing to catch in MMA with everyone rolling around on the same mats, but wouldn't you almost expect someone like a hockey player, with all their routines and gear etc, would be more prone to having it recur?

I would, yes. One also has to take into account the physical abuse athletes take. Despite being in great shape, their immune systems are always 'on', so to say, by having to heal muscle tears, cuts and bruises. It can leave contact sport athletes with a lowered immunity to viral and bacterial infections.

That's interesting, I'd never really thought about that. But you'd think that putting 20+ guys like that in close quarters during the winter months would make for a lot more viral infections than we hear about.

That's also a factor, absolutely. When you're constantly healing even small injuries like cuts and scrapes, your white blood cell count can take a good dip and that's your first defense towards bacterial and viral infections. Hopefully Chris is getting a longer term dose of antibiotics to ensure he doesn't build up a resistance to the strain of staph.
I guess the big bucks I've spent on my education thus far have paid off a bit.
Yeah, it sucks but you gotta wash out those wounds every now and then.
That's what I've learned. Ever since I learned about flesh-eating disease I've been practicing it pretty good.
Necrotizing fasciitis and staphylococcus are different infections. Though having the hand with the wound in a glove that can't breathe doesn't help also.
They have been using a different soap on his equipment ever since the first infection and the doctors are assuming it wasnt entirely eradicated with the 1st round of antibotics. Ive seen the Nucks locker room, everyone has their own shower stuff/space including soaps, towels, etc. Sometimes you get sick . He thinks he should be back on Sunday.

Higgins was sorely missed against SJ. Hope he gets back soon. Best of luck.

Thanks for the update. I'm a big fan of Chris Higgins.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your brother! Let him know he's a fan favourite!
Cant ****in wait till Booth is back and we really start beating on teams.
I miss Booth, he was really starting to come around and look like the Booth from 08-09 that we were all praying he'd turn into. I'll accept it may take him sometime to find his stride again but I really miss the Amex line.
Soft, chokers, boston has better depth, hodgson is a bust, booth is a salary dump, higgins is washed up, raymond will never be the same, and Hansen isn't as good as Helm.
