For fantasy hockey purposes... let's light up Jonathan Quick with a 7 point effort from Dan Hamhuis.

These guys seriously cannot score; only team worse offensively is the horrendous New York Islanders. Kopitar hasn't scored in like 17 games...just shut-down Mike Richards.

^They're on a good stretch (3-0-1?) since Darryl Sutter came on as coach, but he's not exactly known as a free-wheeling offensive type. Still, they have enough guys with solid two-way awareness to play a strong game. The Canucks will need to bring a strong effort to win, although the good news is that they usually seem up to playing the Kings.

Just when you thought the Kings couldn't get more uninteresting, they bring in Darryl "What lockout? What new rules?" Sutter to bore everyone to death.

Ya, but even then they've been limited to 2 or fewer goals three times through that four game stretch (actually that's near their per game average through around 40 games...so no surprise). Kings pretty much have to limit the best offensive team in the league to 2 or less goals, and hope they can either eek one out or win in a shoot-out.

Unless we totally blow it we should win again.

Oh, look, the Kings still have no offense. Been saying this all year and not many people seemed to agree with me in October

I won't be watching this one, but I'll PVR and probably watch it Sunday morning whenever I drag myself out of bed and dust the cobwebs off.

By the way, why the $*&# are they scheduling 7PM games (10PM EST) on NYE? This is just bush league. Have an afternoon game that everyone can watch before they head off to enjoy the festitivies. Ridiculous.

haha the name I usually use is Mancari. He's an AHL stud, in the Canucks 5-0 victory he'll probably get 4 goals (unassisted or maybe a few by Alberts), and ill give the Sedins one pity point each, but not Burrows, he's been doing too well lately

I did! They're a helicopter team and adding a guy who was ran out of Philly because he was a poor leader to a young impressionable group wasn't some sort of big coup.

I wonder what people would say in those Kesler/Richards polls now...

You know, it really seems like the southern California teams both hired the coach the other one should've taken. Boudreau could get the offensive talent on the Kings going, Sutter could knock some discipline into Getzlaf & co. while still letting them play tough.

What a year. Looking at those pictures brings back some memories.

Let's just hope there's an extra one in there by the end of next year.

Their 6-15 forward depth is hideous, too. 06-07 Canucks hideous. And Doughty's attitude has screamed "Neon Deon" to me since his rookie year.

Richards is having an okay year, but there isn't a forward in the entire NHL with Kesler's skillset. There just isn't. There are a few similar guys (Burrows, Koivu), but none with his physical skillset and absolute effort level. He doesn't always work smart but he always works hard.

Of course I got lambasted a lot for saying I didn't think there were 10 centres in the league I'd take before Kesler last season. There were a lot of Getzlafs on those lists...

Good god a Sutter game.

Quick is the only real concern IMO. If the Canucks can get 3 goals they should win. Higgins still out I assume?

Biggest problem right here. Their top six isn't absolutely awful, if healthy, any combo of Richards, Kopitar, Williams, Gagne, and Brown should be competent (or at least not second last in the league in GF). It's the supplementary forwards who are complete no-shows offensively, and this results in the team looking just inept if either Richards or Kopitar slumps. It also makes it pretty easy to shut the Kings down if you key in on the right guys. Though they most likely took for granted between 80-100 points out of J. Johnson and Doughty, which doesn't look likely at all.

Vigneault said he was possible for the LA game but it seems unlikely they would fly him down just for the last game on the road trip.

IMO the Kings offensive woes stems from 3 different issues - their bottom 6 forwards aren't very good, the defense as a group don't move the puck quickly enough and Terry Murray was too defensive minded and didn't activate his defense enough. Drew Doughty holding out and missing camp didn't help things either.

Not sure Sutter is the right guy to get the offensive system in place, the defense will be tough to address mid-season and the Mike Richards trade will hurt their chances of improving the depth up front.

All in all, not a serious threat in the West without making a few significant moves.

To think there were people trying to talk themselves into Dustin Penner being a good acquisition. It seems like the only thing keeping him producing any offense was the scrutiny in Edmonton.

Penner earned so much acclaim from one decent rookie season in Anaheim, but IMO, it was already clear that he was pretty high on talent, but severely lacking in effort. That albatross contract Lowe signed him to just guranteed he wouldn't break a sweat for the next half-decade.
