Looks like he won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

He's a good defensive defensemen to have. I just hope we didn't overpay.

Very good player. Yes it blocks some guys, but you know what? Mike Weaver is what you hope a Keaton Ellerby will be, so let's keep the guy we already have. I'm a big fan. Anything in the 2 mil or less range is a very good deal.

I agree, this gives us time to not rush the development of others while still having someone better than our ladder options.

Didn't see this coming, hope the number is reasonable. Think this is good for us.

I've been battling with my new wireless router the whole afternoon, and meanwhile this happens?

I was definitely not expecting to hear this today not that I didn't think we would try to re-sign him just that I thought if he did it would be at a later date. He is a very good player defensively and I am happy that he has chosen to re-sign with us. I doubt the cap hit will be very high and he has been more than worth the money we have been paying him the last two years.

Agreed - I know a lot of people get down on him here sometimes, but he does a lot of the dirty work. His shot blocking is some of the best on the team most nights.

He works hard, and agreed with others - if the price is right, come on down Mike Weaver!

Assuming Garrison re-signs I think this spells the eventual end of Keaton Ellerby's Panther career.

Been a fan of Weaver since last season, hope it's too a good amount, but I'm glad he'll be around. Gives us a lot of flexibility, send Erik to the A if the heads think that's best for him, not re-sign Ellerby or move him, or just keep the 7 guys in case of injury.

Still have Garrison, Ellerby, and Kuli to sign on D.

I wasn't expecting this and originally thought he might not be signed at all over the off-season, but he deserves this extension. As I've said about him before, he may not be the most noticeable player on the ice in most games, but he plays with great determination on the penalty kill and is a terrific shot blocker.

Never been a big fan of Weaver...

But I'm glad he got the extension... He certainly deserves it !

But like GP said... If we sign Weaver to let go Garrison in the end, it won't be a good trade. If we sign Weaver to trade Ellerby, I don't think it is a good trade also.

Can't have enough defensive-depth, but having Ellerby in the stands the whole year isn't a great idea IMO. And we won't get much value if we trade him so...

Still, congrats to you Mike !

Why in God's name would we let Garrison go? And Garrison has said he's thankful for the chances Florida has given him. Sorry, that's ridiculous.

Ellerby could also be a 7th D, Guds could get sent to the A, or Ellerby could be dealt. I'm not sold on Keaton, at all. He's looked good at times, but there's a reason he's been the usual odd man out.

And how do you not like Weaver??

Garry isnt going anywhere. When I tweeted GR about Garry, he expects a deal to get done as well, before he hits free agency.

If Garrison signs, I could see Shore and Ellerby shipped out in a deal together for a big name player close to the deadline.

I don't know how many big name players we could get with that package. It seems a little weak.

I don't understand why this spells doom for ellerby. We have the same 7 guys now, don't we? Id be surprised if we don't have any blueline injuries at some point over the next few years.

I think Robak will be the 7th guy next year and remember you have Petrovic and other d-men in the pipeline. Doesn't make sense to keep a player like Ellerby sitting in the stands for another season. Would lose all trade value. On the other hand, I could see Weaver sitting as the 7th guy next season if Tallon decides Ellerby has a future as a Panther. Keeping a 34yo blueliner making just $1.1mil as a veteran spare makes more sense than sitting Ellerby.

If it doesn't make sense sitting ellerby, how does it make sense sitting robak who is even younger and less experienced? There are going to be injuries....I don't see the need to bring Robak up next season. Our blueline prospects can wait a few years, it will only be beneficial.

Not only that, but why in God's name would they sit Weaver? It's not going to happen. Robak and Petrovic can spend another year in the A, and if they make the team Tallon will make sure there's room for them.
