The Blues breakout is pretty terrible on the PP. It takes them forever to regroup, and even when they have the puck movement is slow, and the options they give the puck-carrier are poor. When the PK sends a forechecker in deep, that's not the time to half-ass it back while the puck carrier looks to hide. Bust back to give the man a couple of quick options and turn that into a 4 on 3 the other way. Even if it doesn't develop into an odd man rush, there's going to be a lot more room to gain the zone with one of the PKers out of the play. There is zero urgency in the Blues PP breakout, and their opponents abuse it regularly.

Couldnt have said it better Easton..

There is no urgency and fast movement. It is hurry and just pass it around slowly instead of make plays and dig in with the advantage. I am all for new special teams coach.

Finished the period stronger than they started but 14 shots against and about 7 or 8 good scoring chances at home against a division rival coming off two days rest and a frustrating loss isn't acceptable. The Blues are going to have to outchance Nashville the rest of the way because Predator opportunism plus the sizable goaltending advantage feels like trouble tonight.

Crowd kind of getting on Stewart, eh? The mock cheer when he lightly finished a check on a Pred (I think Kostitsyn) and the frustration with the 10 seconds it took him to circle a couple times in his own zone on the PP.

Hardly a surprise he's forgotten what sort of player he's suppose to be.

Berglund missed an open netter...

This is becoming an old story with this guy.

Anyone seen Cola since his 'injury'? I haven't been watching close enough to our D.

With the way he's played better this period, Stewart definitely having a better game than Berglund. Berglund so frustrating a player.

That was not a good penalty... pretty jumpy on the whistle and the fear of Concussions in NHL is making this so lame.

Our PP blows.

Why does Berglund go down so easily?

Anyone else getting tired of Backes taking so many penalties? I understand hard playing hockey, but this is awful!

Agree Stewart has been better but still not overly physical and totally agree on Berglund.

It was my main arguement on why I thought Steen should be captain and not Backes. But I honestly didn't care either way.

Backes' emotions always get the best of him and it gets old.

He really becomes easy to shut down when he gets mad. He draws stupid penalties and loses concentration on the play. Put a decent enforcer on him and they completely made Backes nullified. He has hard time rebounding back and behaving.

Don't get me wrong, I like Backes and find him a great player. But as the team leader, I don't know. His emotions, as you pointed out, run unchecked and out of control sometimes.

Well said. It needs to change. Happened a lot last season too.

He doesn't, so I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

The one time I've seen him on the ice this game (which I'm assuming you're referring to), he was at the end of something like a 1:30 shift on the PP. He ran a stretch play, which is hard enough to do with dead legs, tried to pull up in the corner once he was covered to wait for help, and his legs slid out from under him on the stop. I don't think the Nashville defenseman had anything to do with it.

Thats what I saw too and I agree Berglund does not go down easily. He is actually pretty darn solid on his skates and especially during puck battles. At the end of a shift anyone can go down easily. When your legs have that burn and whimsy feeling its hard enough to stand on your own.

Backes is on pace to have the fewest PIMs he's ever had in a full season, and they've dropped every year for three years straight prior to this one. He's on pace for half the PIMs he had three years ago. He's a physical, emotional player...he's going to take penalties. It's obvious, though, that he's done quite a bit to improve that part of his game.

Not even sure why this is coming up now. He took a hooking penalty in the middle of a defensive zone scramble in front of the net. Big deal.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I am just angry with him right now, he doesn't really do much outside of having spurts of greatness followed by not finishing. I am just saying he needs to play bigger and more like how he is built.

Because sometimes yes, he does go down easy. Not as often as I may have led on.
