I can't find that tweet.

But the little whiny interview he just gave on the NHL network was very unprofessional.

I have a feeling this whole bryz situation and contract is going to end up very bad for us.

What did he say? I didn't find the tweet either, maybe the posts referred to his interview.

Bryzgalov apparently is the person who broke the news that he won't be playing.

Among what he is quoted as saying:

Bobrovsky "gives us chance to win."

That he, Bryzgalov, is "going to have a nice tea and enjoy the bench"

"Of course [it is disappointing]. I’m a human. I’m not made from the steel."

One of the biggest questions heading into Sunday's practice day apparently has been answered.

According to goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, he will not be starting in the Winter Classic. That means backup Sergei Bobrovsky, who turned in a strong performance in Thursday's win against Pittsburgh, will play against the Rangers on Monday afternoon.

"I have great news and even better news," Bryzgalov said. "OK, great news is I’m not playing tomorrow night and better news is we have a chance to win the game (Monday)."

Several players said after Sunday's practice that Bobrovsky is being rewarded for his consistent performance this season.

To say he is having confidence issues at the moment would be an understatement. He needs some time off the ice to train and revitalize himself.

Even though he's being sarcastic about it, it appears Bryz knows it's the right call. His sarcasm is just his reaction to it... like he says, he's human and this is a big deal.

Second only to Isabelle Giroux's new husband-to-be, I'd say Laviolette is displaying some big balls by making this call. It's the right call. Hats off to him.

Like I said, Peter Laviolette is paid by the Philadelphia Flyers. Not HBO.

I don't think he started to get sarcastic/annoyed until the end of the interview. The questioning was starting to get to him. The early part just sounded like he was disappointed but trying to be professional and supportive.

Agreed but it really is not his place to announce that. He shouldn't have done it.

I don't really mind though, he seemed genuinely disappointed. Hopefully he can turn it around in 2012!

Jeff Reese's opinion was likely an important factor, too. He has a sense as to where the goalies are mentally and especially Bryzgalov. Reese's name will probably be mentioned later today. Ultimately, it is Laviolette's decision.

It's not just HBO, it's the pressure that may be coming from above because he was paid so much/for so long to be the answer. Reading the comments above regarding lavi not being happy with Bryz making the announcement leads me to believe there is more to the story.

Agreed. I'm certain Laviolette wasn't thinking "HBO loves Bryz the Universe Man... Must play Bryz." If he was convinced Bob was the guy who would give the team the best chance to win, the only other factor weighing on the decision would have been that playing Bob would further call into question the signing of Bryz by Laviolette's boss.

The decision came down to this: Play Bob for the best chance to win the game, but make the GM look a little bad, or play Bryz so the GM doesn't lose face, and weaken the team's chance to win.

Laviolette just showed us he's a man of the people and that he won't let politics stand in the way of the team's success. Good for him.

Oh, and now HBO has the opportunity to feature a goalie controversy and could get awesome quotes from Bryz like: "I wish Bobrovsky or whatever his name would just go back to Siberia or wherever. He's dating my dog, you know that?"

I think that's a result of having 600x more than the normal media presence. I didn't watch or see, but someone else saying something and him just answering is possible.

Reading Bill Meltzer's post the other day, he made a good point that (if) Bob were to get the start to the Winter Classic, it should give Bryzgalov the impetus to look in the mirror.

Meanwhile, for Bobrovsky, he'll be dripping with confidence that he is getting the start in such a spectacle, beating out the guy who just signed a $51M contract.

The Flyers shouldn't be changing anything from Thursday.

Meanwhile, I'm sure Bryz gets a mic for the game. He and Biron would be at the top of the list of goalies with great soundbytes from the bench.

Edit: Here apparently is the video

For his part, Laviolette – who addressed the media after Bryzgalov’s bombshell – said that he had not yet made a decision. Bryzgalov said he was notified by team goaltending coach Jeff Reese and through a posted lineup in the Flyers’ locker room. He said he had not spoken to Laviolette and did not “see a reason why” he should.

On one hand, the fact that Bobrovsky is starting in such a momentous game is not such a surprise. Unlike an All-Star Game, the Winter Classic actually counts in the standings. And Bobrovsky gives the Flyers the best statistical chance to win.

The Flyers are 8-2-2 when Bobrovsky starts, compared to just 13-9-3 with Bryzgalov in net at puck drop. In his previous 7 appearances, Bobrovsky’s numbers are better than a 1.47 goals against-average and .950 save percentage.

Bryz, what the hell are you doing?

This guy needs to learn to not say this crap to the media. Let the coach make announcements like this.

This is probably why he's only supposed to be talking to the media on game days where he plays.
