The guy is so fun to watch. He delivers a hit, then looks so innocent like nothing happened, it is almost cute.
1. He stops players before they cross the blue line. THAT is great D, and I have not seen it in years on the Habs.
2. After the hit, he gets up, and fast, and back into the play. Even though he just killed the threat anyway by attacking the forward early. Marty relaxed on the ice for 3 seconds before getting up. Em was up immediately.
3. He watched Martin SL, and caught him. Very few guys ever catch Marty like that.
I love Emelin. If we **** up and lose him, what a joke.
a) Leaves the hitter vulnerable and immobile
b) Lots of ways that the hit will not be successful
c) Penalty for low-bridging if performed incorrectly
d) Penalty for obstruction if ill-timed
Read my post above. I know what you're saying, but a good hip check in the neutral zone kills offensive threat immediately, it's worth the risk.
I have not seen this in years from Habs D, or any D in the NHL for that matter. I think Em was trained by great Russian D, (and their were many), and our own coaches should start bringing this kind of D back.
I think a lot of the NHL D are watching Em do this, and they are learning from it. Strange but true. It's like they forgot about this kind of D.
It's crazy that he's got only one assist so far. He has a great first pass and he has some offensive swag at times. Not bad of a slapshot also.
It's like my training in Architecture. My first boss told me: Be accurate and correct first, you'll get faster later. That's what I teach all my interns.

Em will produce offensively later. Now he's learning to play D in the NHL, and he's doing pretty damn good so far.
Emelin is seemingly the one thing the Habs board can agree on.
And for good reason. The guy has walked into a pressure cooker, the Bell, with the Habs, strange city, country and culture, and still plays his game, and goes up against anyone in the league.
Not saying he will be great, but damn, he might well be from what I see so far.
I always look forward to seeing Emelin hit somebody. It seems even his hits along the boards are hard. I would love for the Habs to give him at least another 2 year deal, this guy has not looked out of place at all and he will get even better.
I am liking the idea of having Emelin, Tinordi, Gorges, Beaulieu, Subban and Markov all play at same time down the road. I actually hope to see Markov just practice to give us hope for next year. But Emelin is a stud, great on PG to have been able to bring him with Habs from KHL. Now they just need to not mess it up and resign him.
I'm just glad Cunneyworth is actually keeping him in the lineup.

Cunneyworth has identified who is the weak link; Campoli.
With the fourth line missing a piece, Weber has to fill that role for now until White comes back or the Habs make a trade that lands a fourth liner as a piece of the deal. So really, Emelin is benefiting right now and rightfully so. In no way, shape or form should Emelin sit in favor of Campoli. Emelin adds what Montreal is missing on their blue line - a guy that strikes fear into opponents.

I loved how he approached the NHL
If you remember, at the beginning of the seasons and during pre season, you could tell he had a lot of occasions to hit people, but didnt, and you could almost tell he was itching to. But I guess he listened to the coach,other players or himself, and just waited and learned not to be out of position, and played smart, and only once he got used to the speed, players and other things, that s when he started the demolition job, one hit here and there, then almost ever games, and now sometimes twice a game or more.
And i guess it ll be the same for his offensive play, but that takes more time though, and you could see him pinching more, sometimes get burnt, but most of the times he does smart plays and throws accurates passes, so i m definitely not worried about his offensive games, it ll just take some time, but at least I know he s learning and doing things the right way

Beaulieu will be replacing Markov in 2 years. I doubt they ever play together.
Not sure what you're watching but he is playing at a #3-4-5 level. His biggest problem is he is a rookie and has to carry Gill.
