A little higher than I was hoping for, but it's not terrible by any means. I was gunning for 3.5-3.75M. I'm not about to cry over .15M, Gorges is the type of player that will atleast play his heart out.

Gorges current contract is 2.5 per year so it will be interesting to see how
much of a raise he got - 3.9 cap hit pretty good increase now he needs to
put up more points......

I'm tempting to say this is too much ( because it is ) but then I remembered I was immune to high salary and this one was just a walk in the park to accept compare to the Kaberle we just took on.

Wow. This is great. I was expecting 3.75M but at a much shorter term, and he could have gotten a lot more had he waited until July 1st.

Wow really? Gorges is #1 on this team right now, admittedly due to injury to Markov and Subban's rough patch.

He's one of the best shut down guys in the league, #1 shot blocker in the league. Idealy he is our #3. He got exactly what most #3-4D men get in their prime.

Markov-Subban (All-around line)
Emelin-Gorges (shut down line)
Kaberle-Diaz (puck moving 16-17 min a game line)

That's what we could have once Markov comes back, and IMO that would be a great defense.

The funny part is that it looks like there was truth to the rumours about the negotiations, a fair deal with great term was reached after testing the waters with his knee. I bet this deal was in place for a while. As I said before, happy he stays with the Habs.

I think it's too much, but I like the fact that they negotiated the deal before the deadline.

Give him the C

I'll ask you this.. Would you rather have Komi @ 4.5 or Gorges @ 3.9?

That's a lot of money for a "no-mistake" average defenseman. I appreciate his heart, but it scares me when I think hes getting 3.9, and we have Subban to sign eventually.

I am extremely happy, he is a player I have always loved since he has joined the Habs and he plays with heart. 3.9 is good, he would have easily gotten 4 million as a free agent. Happy to see we did not lose him following last summer negotiations, he was clearly upset he only got one year. Glad to see he wanted to commit long-term to the Habs considering the fact they are a mess right now.

I'm so happy we signed him long-term, and in my opinion the money amount is perfect. The guy deserves to be captain of the team in a couple years.

Alot of money per year but Im ok with.. Gorges is a great leader, he represents the org. very well.. It gives you an idea of the next contract Price will get, I expect 8 - 10 years at about 6.5M per..

Gomez will obviously be sent down while I fully expect Cammalleri to be traded..
