I think Bickel too, just to have toughness on the ice when Staal is out there...

Very happy Staal is back, but I must admit I am feeling nervous about it!

So this thread is at long last moot

Our 2 righties Sauer & Eminger are still out injured - but:

McD - Girardi
MDZ - Strålman
Staal - Bickel

looks good on the Left side now

One day we might even see:

Staal - Girardi
McD - Sauer
MDZ - Eminger/Strålman

Woywitka waived (possibly in CT)
Bickel back in the A

With 5 of 6 of our D as homegrown starters
Erixon on the outside looking in
McIlrath a couple years away

Look for 2-3 deadline deals
Valentenko, MZA, Christ, Wolski... (the usual suspects) are probably all on the block
As will some of our prospects and picks be.
I think Glen goes hard after a scoring fwd, a tough veteran up front and one more vet on the D at the deadline

Optimal scenario in - Doan, Moen, Fransson
Bad scenario in - Hemsky, Kotitsyn, Gleason

In a game like this, I throw the player out there who likes to keep his game simple and bang it off the glass and out. I would imagine MDZ will struggle in this one.

he probably wont get more than 6 minutes tonight...i think its the right move personally. i know its "just a game" but its a big one...this kid is part of the franchise, hed be kicking himself to miss an opportunity like this. limit his minutes, let him be a part of it...getting 6 mins against the 3rd or 4th line he wont hurt himself.

There was zero chance he wasn't playing, and I've said it for days.

I'm stoked!

Little nervous seeing him out there on what likely will be bad ice, but I know Torts will do the smart thing in terms of ice time.

Glad to see Staalsy back out there against the Flyers, hope he takes some good clean hits and shakes the cobb-webs loose. That will help him immensely get his game and confidence back, just hope he doesn't try to do to much and give up a costly turnover..Welcome back Mark!!!!!!

No Rinaldo, Shelley or Walker the Flyers are a FAR less physical team.

Yay great news. So happy for Staalsy.

I think he'll get around 10-12 mins tonight which would be perfect for a return of this nature.

A 1st place team picking up a mid-season player like Staal is just unfathomable. Most people won't look at it that way but that's how it is.

Rinaldo is the problem. He is like Kaleta. He is a hitter. He is 2/3 from retard(The Town line). Has no respect for the opposition. Hides behind the instigator penalty. He hit Sauer from behind in pre-season. Rinaldo was a healthy scratch last game.

Kudos to all the players who filled in admirably while he was out, Danny G., McD, MDZ, Emminger, Sauer, Stralman, Woywitka, Bickel...

Can't baby Staal, he needs the physicality of a game like this, as fans we're worried, but Mark NEEDS this mentally more than anything. I'm more worried about his conditioning and getting adjusted to the speed of the game again more than the physical aspect. Staalsy's a big boy and needs to hit and be hit. I'm so happy for him getting a chance to play in the Winter Classic, tear it up Mark!!!!!
