So that's settled then, Pitkanen, Ward, Ruutu and Gleason for Bryzgalov...
Just leaves you short by $7m with Pronger on IR...
You'll have to at least include a 2nd from the Flyer end.

Nobody (hopefully the Flyers included) will give up a 1st for Gleason. I guess Beauchemin could cost a 1st or a player like Read + ...
I would really like a guy like Gleason or Sutton for some extra sandpaper on the back end.
Apart from the trade cost, I think resignability should be an important consideration. In my non-medical opinion, I think Pronger is done as a top-pairing defenseman. He will probably play for this team, but not in the large role that he has in the past. And I have my doubts about resigning Carle, not only for his defensive deficiencies -- albeit better of late -- and so-so offensive abillity, but for what his agent will be seeking as a raise.
I actually thought Beauchemin was older than he is, which was the main point of the response I was preparing. Beauchemin will be 32 in June, and he's making $3.65 mil, which is the last of a 3-year contract (cap hit $3.8 mil). So he has arguably a few good years left in him with a downward trend of salary. Holmgren could potentially sign him for around $3.25 mil for 2-3 years. Beauchemin's less than stellar performance in Toronto worries me, but he was signed by them to be a top-pairing guy and carry the D. On the Flyers, Beauchemin wouldn't have to be the be-all and end-all, but could still be on the ice in all critical situations (by "all" I mean he has the skills to be on the PP, PK and final minute of a close game; I don't mean he has to be on the ice every time these occasions arise).
Gleason, still of significant interest to me, will be 29 at the end of January, and he's on the last year of a 4-year contract with a cap hit of $2.75 mil, but he's being paid $3.5 mil this year. So a Holmgren resign would have to be at least $3.5 mil.
All in all, I'd see Beauchemin as more of a long-term solution (ie, 2-4 years) towards the Flyers' anticipated Pronger deficit.
Nashville gets their offense, and we get our #1 dman.
I wouldn't do that if I was Nashville. Briere will be done in 3 years and JVR might not pan out.
But I say we wait and see. Alot can happen from now till the playoffs. Also we have alot of young talent that need to pan out. Do the Flyers HAVE to beat the Rangers and the Bruins this year to win the cup? Are they ****ed if they don't let some of the young guys grow together before they make a huge move for a dman?
Avalanche fan on the main boards offered Erik Johnson for JVR + Meszaros... where do I sign?
EJ has been brutal since that knee injury, he may never become the prospect he could've. Id rather use JVR and MEZ as two pieces in a WEBER or SUTER deal.

If the Flyers manage to acquire Weber or Suter at the dealine, I'd be ecstatic. That said, I feel this is an unlikely dream and the return for either guy would probably include some of our top young forwards, so I don't know if I'd even be willing to give up what it would take.
I cant say ive watched him as much as teh flyers maybe 5 games this year, currently now that richards is playing against them. But i wouldnt say total stud. Id say on par with coburn .
As most of you in this thread, I'd like to add some depth at d, apart from Suter there are no real stud d's out there with expiring contracts. There are a few really solid guys though. Beauchemin would be great, but he has a NMC I think, and might not want to move. Gleason would be a great fit for us I believe. I hope we're looking at adding some snarl to our defense, rather than looking at guys like Liles or Wideman (not saying that Toronto or Washington are looking to deal them).
I suck at trade proposals, but Gleason+5th for 2nd+Lauridsen, would that be far off?
We're not in any desperate, immediate, need for a dman though, Timonen-Coburn, Meszaros-Gustafsson, Carle-Bourdon is fairly solid. No need to make any panic trades for a rental player, but I would like to see a dman added for the playoffs, preferably without moving any of our roster players.
Yandle's only 25 and is one of the top defencemen in the league. He's signed for four more years. If the Coyotes weren't getting a ton of upside in return (and if they didn't have such a deep pool of D) then there's no way they could let Yandle go.

No thanks. Until we know if Pronger is coming back, we can't take on a long term expensive contract.
The Flyers need a UFA to be rental, someone from a team that is already out of the playoffs like Beauchemin or Gleason.
I posted this in another thread but what about JVR+Schenn+1st For Ryan and Fowler. Solves our problem for a franchise dman and we get my man crush Ryan. Some people seemed to agree its pretty good value wise
Lydman is good, but he's got another year at $3M. That means Carle goes for sure.
It's possible.
Visnovsky has another year at $5.6M. We might squeeze him under the cap this year, but not next, unless Pronger is done permanently. If that looks like the case, they'll just re-up Carle.
