I could be blind but I doubt it

While I am extactic about this past win, can anyone explain to me how Ryan Callahan got that penalty towards the end of the game? The official penalty he got called for was "Holding The Stick" but it looked like he was getting hit in the throat with Timonen's stick.

Undoubtedly the absolute WORST call I have seen sence Cally got slewfooted by Sid the Kid.

He held a stick that was being used to foul him. Marginal call at best, but there is video of him holding the stick.

It appared to me he was holding the stick to prevent his own injury, the call on McD was also terrible, the penalty shot was a little understandable, but the delay of game call was another joke.

It seemed as if the refs did everything they could to help the Flyers win that last period

The bad call wasn't that he got holding the stick(even though he was probably just preventing it from hitting his throat). The problem here is that should have been a goal. Period. The official rules clearly state that Callahan should've been awarded a goal

Absolutely!!!!! Thank god we have the best goalie in the world, b/c if Briere scored and we ended up losing that game 4-3, I think I would have driven to the League Offices myself and staged a formal protest on behalf of New York

It was pretty obvious that Cally was using his Adam's apple to hold Timonen's stick. Good call.

I wanna see it again too, but I want to hear the league try to support the refs actions during the end of the game, it was inexcusable

They said during the broadcast that one of the refs grew up in Philly? What are the chances that he gets picked to do this game?

Exactly. He still held the stick. It doesn't matter what reasons he had, holding the stick is holding the stick. I didn't like it at first but after the replay I saw that it was pretty clear.

yea i heard that several times, pretty sure it was the guy that called the callahan penalty, go figure

and callahan getting a penalty for pulling a stick out of his mouth is god damn rediculous, i forgot your not allowed to avoid oncoming injury to your mouth or eyes in the modern day nhl.

i could be wrong but if callahan is on a breakaway and a penalty is called on him that'd result in a penalty shot isnt it an automatic goal with the net empty?

Callahan clearly held on to the stick of Timonen. That doesn't mean that it wasn't a really weak call, but it's quite obvious what was called and why.
