Does the league keep all of the Winter Classic revenues (and pay for costs), and just give the Flyers what they would make in a normal home game? Or does the home team pay for costs and a fee to the league, and they keep the revenues? Seems like getting this game could be quite a windfall for a owner -- and if the team keeps most of the profit, it might be hard to keep the game from being played in the sunbelt forever.
The way I understand it the league owns the game so they basically buy it from the team. This allows them to use league sponsors for advertising and specific event sponsorship that would otherwise be contracted to the teams' individual deals.
I could be talking out of my ass but I'm pretty sure that's the idea anyway.
