Petrell was probably going to be sitting in the press box anyway, they probably just have him up as a short term replacement for Jonesy. I don't want to see Eager playing on the 3rd line, I'd much rather see Hartski.

He was quoted as saying he signed with the Wings over the Pens because he felt he had a better chance of winning a Cup. So in your example, a winning track record was the deciding factor.

And I'm sure the Wings being one of the classiest organizations in hockey didn't help.
Detroit isn't the NYR, it's not like they sign big name UFA's every year. You asked and I gave you an example of one of the bigger UFA signings their in the last 5 years.
Plus Detroit hasn't needed to sign super big name free agents because they have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Frazen, and Lidstrom.

They bring in guys like Brad Stuart to fill roles, and those guys usually sign their for a half decent price.

I agree that I would have sent down Lander before Petrell but Petrell really doesn't have a future with this team. He's pro-rated to be a 15 point guy over the course of a full season. These kinds of guys are easily replaceable.

I came on here to see how excited everyone would be to have Harti finally back up with the Oil. Bring someone with skill, size and emotion to upgrade one of the three lines that hasn't done anything. I must be watching a different team!

There is excitement, Hartikainen could have had a good shot of sticking in the NHL if not for the off season signings..I think he really adds to the team. It's the Petrell move that is kinda confusing.

Well realistically it was going to be either Lander or Petrell if they wanted to bring up Harti. No one else really was an "easy" send down because of waivers etc. I assume they want Lander up because he's a natural centre and takes a lot of faceoffs (4th most on the team) although at 41% he isn't great at them. Petrell can play centre as well but he's been playing wing so a swap of Harti-Petrell was the obvious move.

I imagine Petry, Peckham and Potter are next.

...puzzling promotion of players poses potential pattern predictions, perhaps?

idiotic to demote Petrell, I mean completely. Stupid stupid move. Not really a significant one, but an idiotic one none the less. Have to think it's all MacRenney behind it.

I'm sorry, (and not sure if even serious) but saying Petrell is not physical enough for the 4th line is bs to say the least.

Edmonton Journal: Lennart Petrell is earning his keep on the vastly improved Oilers penalty kill/

That's exactly what a fourth liner has to do. After watching the games and reading that article I doubt Harski will do any better for this team. This seems like a bad and desperate move.

Nobody's knocking Härski. The decision to send Petrell down is the thing that has got many to scratch their heads.

This is very odd. Lander should have been sent down ages ago.

I would have sent Lander down instead but I guess that we needed to keep the centre.
