i don't know. he's a nice fit on the PK but beyond that i don't know if he's capable as a fourth liner on the team. if they feel his intangibles on the PK is worth a spot then he'll be on the team, but i doubt it.

I don't think..

that past teams have featured an Ortmeyer-type. The question is are there other guys who are decent PKers that would also be on the team. Guys like Modano, Weight, York and others kill penalties and bring some offense, so there may not be room for a penalty killing specialist.

Did the 1980 team have an Ortmeyer type? It appears like most of them were...

Yea Ralph Cox, the last player cut. I wonder why he never played a game in the NHL.

That was 1980...

a time when I looked forward to watching Olympic hockey. Now I could almost care less. My favorite NHL players aren't American - I really prefer watching kids play. Now Olympic teams resemble All Star teams.

Personally, I love the Olympics. It's like an all-star tournament that the players really care about. Of course, as a Finn and an American, I get to root for two teams...

As for Orts, I really think his chances depend mostly on the play of one man: Dom Moore. When Moore was scoring, a lot of attention was being focussed on his line and on Orts and Hollweg. Now that they're not lighting the lamp, fewer people pay attention to Jed, even though he's playing just as well as he ever has. Pity for Orts -- I always thought he was a longshot, but I really don't think he'll get chosen. Pity for the US, too, because he's the kind of player who makes teams better.

Disremember the source, but seems to me that Waddell recently confirmed that no NYR players were under consideration any longer.
