Maybe Semin can trade Torts the money for an assist in the next Rangers/Caps game.

Questioning terrible officiating=12 times worse than a dangerous suckerpunch to the head.

Torts fined 30k for post WC comments

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/stor...ts-source-says
Quote:
GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- New York Rangers coach John Tortorella was fined $30,000 for his postgame comments about the officiating in Monday's Winter Classic, a source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.
Torts:
Quote:
"It was wrong with my sarcasm and frustration, and I apologize to everyone involved. I want to make sure that's straight," he continued. "That was not my intent and I certainly handled it the wrong way."
Expected, but a bit steep if you ask me, discuss.

We all knew this was coming. I'm still glad he said it because it needed to be said.

According to this list, this is 12 times worse than anything else that has happened this year.

Yup. There's no coaches union, so you see things like this.

A bit steep, but it is what it is. And it was worth it. Write the check, Dolan.

Worth it to see what we were all thinking brought to the fore. The steepness of the fine shows how butthurt the NHL is over it, too. Money well spent, in my opinion.

Not the first time he's been fined for comments about the NHL, 30k kinda makes sense.

The officiating in this league has been horrible for some time now and the Winter Classic was the icing on the cake. Once the Rangers gained the lead, it was like a flip was switched and the officials decided to make themselves a part of the game to force it to OT.

It was so blatant that something had to be said. The fact that Ron Wilson spoke up in support of Torts speaks volumes... how often does a neutral coach make comments about the officiating of a game his team wasn't involved in?

Milbury and Jones couldn't have disagreed more with the fine, they just aren't allowed to say that what Torts said was right. They barely responded, one sentence each.

Complete ****ing joke. What happened to free speech? He thinks the refs were ****ing terrible? So did millions of other people! You're really gonna fine a guy for speaking the opinion of millions?

Also, I could see our players "raise" the money, and get it back to Torts

The fine was low to me, and he should have been suspended.

This moron can never seem to keep his big yap shut. He's a good guy, but his mouth is just too much.

Really, to all of you so appalled by his fine, the guy questioned the integrity of everything about the NHL on its biggest stage at its most important event.
He didn't just say the refs were bad, he insinuated the game could be freaking bought.
Sure we all know the refs suck, are terrible at times, but if you believe the league can be bought and that the NHL has no integrity, WTF do you even watch the games for?

What he said was classless and detrimental to hockey and the Rangers, I would have been fine with 100k and 5 games. The guy is Sean Avery behind the bench...

and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while to see the Rangers in the classic again.

Anyone want to start a petition for Dolan to reimburse Torts on account of speaking the truth?

Over-reaction. He said what everyone was thinking. Shouldn't have said it, but it wasn't nearly as embarrassing as the actual officiating of the game
