Simply enough, Strome has a higher skill cap, and while I expect him to be a wing for us, he could still slot at center which might end up being important depending on what kind of scoring Bailey achieves in the next 2-3 seasons. (It's more of an insurance policy than a bet against Bailey. Obviously, I'm one of Bailey's bigger proponents.)
I'm not terribly interested in trading Nino , but he's the piece I would most likely part with in a trade to improve the current roster. It's hard to know what has happened to Nino's value since he's been here. It's hard to know what Columbus would feel about him. All I know is that if you want to take Tyutin from Columbus, then you're going to have to give something meaningful up. All I know beyond that is that it's been a few years since we've brought in a higher end player via UFA.
Our defense is small as a group and we have slots becoming available. Tyutin is an immediate upgrade that is reasonably priced (considering what it would cost to obtain a UFA replacement) and is locked up for a number of productive years. I honestly don't think he's for sale, so the price to pry him away goes up. (It doesn't make sense for him to be on the move unless there's something we don't know about. If that's the case, then the cost to obtain him goes up.) When you're trading contract for contract, you have to take the fact that Tyutin is locked up into account. It's not like he's making $6-$7 million/year and we're doing Columbus a favor.
