3rd goalie on the depth chart for the Phantoms, no reasons to keep him around.

Does this free up a roster spot for us?

If he's loaned by the Flyers, I don't think it frees up a contract spot. Huet still counts for the Blackhawks I believe. He would have to agree to terminate his contract (like Lehtivuori did) in order for it to go away. That's how I understand these things at least, but I'm no capologist.

That's exactly what I wasn't hoping for.

I'd like that extra contract slot.

I don't think its that major of a deal.. His contract is up at the end of the year anyway. It won't hurt us most likely in any attempt of a upgrade at the trade deadline.

Yes it can. Flyers have 49 contracts. If they want to 2 players at the deadline, they need to get rid of someone else to do it.

It all matters in what we are going for. If they are going after Weber or another big named dman then we will definitely have more players going then coming back. I think as a whole we made too much of a deal about the contract amount. We could also deal a player who is an AHLer for life for futures or something to clear room(and no this isn't bad asset management, every team has players under contract that can be moved for virtually nothing). This isn't that big of a deal
