Brutal shot to take. Hope he's okay and that it's nothing serious. Was at the game last night and the play happened so quickly that I can't even recall the sequence, just saw Phaneuf go down and everyone else on the ice immediately skate towards him. He got busted open pretty good though. After taking a shot like that, giving him a standing ovation as he was skating off the ice was the least we could do.

He took his eye off the shooter to make sure he had position on the forward in front of the net, at exactly the wrong time.

But he was making a gritty play late in a 4 goal game to help preserve a shutout. Very captainly. I'll have to notify Bill Watters so he can spin it another way.

I'm not even a big Phaneuf fan, but how in the world does a slapshot to the face become a bash Phaneuf thread?

Maybe we should just lock this until some news comes in?

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

i was just saying last night that i think that was his best game of the season, i dont care if he scored or not he was in on every play and firing pucks at the net from left right and center, he had a mean sense of urgency to him and i think everyone else fed from it..best 60 minute game the leafs have played in a long time... anyone who watched the game in full would know what im talking about..hopefully he is day to day

Ever been hit in the jaw? Definitely scrambles your brains. One of the first things you learn in boxing is that even if you're exhausted, breathe through your nose and keep your mouth firmly shut, or you risk greater chance of being knocked out. I'm also no doctor so I don't know how it works, but I do know that I've been caught and wasn't entirely sure where I was for a bit.

Better chance of the puck breaking than Dion's face

Me liked how Dion pushed away doctor with towel with "I don't need any help!"

From where the puck hit him, I would be worried about his jaw and teeth, not a concussion. Hopefully he does not miss any time...he is having a really solid year.

At least it was not an arrow to the knee...then he would be stuck with guard duty.

Getting hit in the Jaw can often cause a concussion--- ever wonder why kids have to wear mouth-guards even when wearing a cage?

Coach Ron Wilson says no breaks suffered by Phaneuf, and he expects The Captain will plat Sat vsM Detroit.

I'd assume he'd still be able to play even with a broken jaw. Just have him wear a cage if he can play

Wilson just said he is "day-to-day" and Wilson thinks he can go.

I'm sure he'll play with his jaw wired shut if he has to.

How can you not break anything taking a puck to the face, amazing, we dodged a bullet there.

The puck deflected so it probably lost some of its speed but yeah..Phaneuf has teeth made of iron

If that was Connolly, he'd be out 12-18 months
