Wow, it really sucks.

I think they are going into another lockout... I really hope it won't happen.

Well looks like i will be following the NCAA closer next year. **** this ****, can't describe how pissed off i am right now. This has lockout written all over it. If the NHL gets stuck in another one it could be devastating for the game.

this better be just a negotiation topic for the CBA, otherwise it makes absolutely no sense.

Seriously, I try to give the NHL a chance but it's hard to care when they continue to treat our team like second-class citizens and fail to give much of an incentive to follow the Wild. They should just be lucky that Minnesota cares about hockey because if this was another expansion city we'd tune them out ages ago.

The National Hockey League announced
today that it will not move forward with implementation of the Realignment
Plan and modified Playoff Format recently approved by the NHL Board of
Governors for the 2012-13 NHL season because the NHLPA has refused to
provide its consent.

“It is unfortunate that the NHLPA has unreasonably refused to approve
a Plan that an overwhelming majority of our Clubs voted to support, and
that has received such widespread support from our fans and other members
of the hockey community, including Players,” said NHL Deputy Commissioner
Bill Daly. “We have now spent the better part of four weeks attempting to
satisfy the NHLPA’s purported concerns with the Plan with no success.
Because we have already been forced to delay, and as a result are already
late in beginning the process of preparing next season’s schedule, we have
no choice but to abandon our intention to implement the Realignment Plan
and modified Playoff Format for next season.”

“We believe the Union acted unreasonably in violation of the League’s
rights. We intend to evaluate all of our available legal options and to
pursue adequate remedies, as appropriate.”

As a result of the League’s decision today, the NHL will maintain its
current alignment and Playoff Format for the 2012-13 season.
Realignment allegedly off

Seriously though, history has been made. Bettman actually did something right, and the players are losing points quickly for being babies about it. Screw you, NHLPA!

Lockout on the horizon.

I honestly dont' even know what to say to this:

As usual the spoiled brats out of the East Coast appear to be the ones who are whining the most about what the alignment was. Not to mention there is a Ranger's fan on there that said "does anyone really want to watch a conference finals of NJ/MIN/COL/NASH" or something to that regards. God I had the main board and the pure homerism and bandwagon of some of the people on this forum in general. It is beyond full retard.

There's a 0.000001% chance of a lockout this season. Anyone who says any different doesn't have a clue how collective bargaining works.

That said, Fehr is a ****ing *********. It'll be interesting to see how nuclear the league goes on this. The league asking the NHLPA's "permission" on this is completely a formality. Alignments are defined by a league document, not the CBA. The CBA only states a maximum number of games allowed in a season. The composition of those games is not defined within any collective agreements, and the league only asks the PA their opinion to "play nice." This is 100% a ********* political move by Fehr. It seems his time as the union leader will be as short as his predecessor's.

It's just a big "F you" to Minnesota and it's fans. And other teams, too. I bet Winnipeg's most pissed, actually.

Now, is there ANY reason AT ALL for NHLPA to do this? Honestly?

It's a political move. They're "flexing their muscle" to try gain advantage at the bargaining table. They know they don't have the right to this, but want to make the league look like (pardon the phrase) Indian givers if they're forced to utilize the fact that the PA doesn't have that right after making a show of caring about their opinion.

If the league can just ram this through then it needs to do so, both to improve the league as a whole, and to stand up to the players union.

Well duh! Wasn't referring to this season. Isn't next season the one in jeopardy?

Yep. Stuck in the SE with rediculous travel times for one more season. Absolutely brutal. There are certain teams, (like Minnesota and Winnipeg) that the league has no problem throwing under the bus just to appease the egos out on the east coast.

Lockout here we come.

The NHL has not officially stated (to my knowledge) if they will or will not allow the league to suspend play for the time of the Olympics to allow players to go and play for their countries. However, Bettman has made it very clear he is against the idea of suspending the schedule for that long because it compresses the schedule and the league obviously loses revenue when the arena's are not filled during that time. The NHLPA has taken a huge stance against that motion with support obviously from the IOC and IIHF as well. This can be a big thing to help push into the CBA that they need to include that suspension for the Olympics accordingly.

I dont get why they cant just start the season a week early and end it a week later in olympic years, and hold no All-Star game.

Olympics make the NHL zero money directly. Indirectly you can make the case, but even after the USA v. Canada GMG they only saw a slight percentage increase in viewing
