I wonder what they ask for in return to agree to it.

I am so happy that awful realignment plan failed.

Keep it the way things are, but swap the Jackets and the Jets.

Had to hate him as a Ranger fan though. Him and Westphal were excellent gloaters.

that would be the simple thing to do........I didnt like how teams with better records would not make the playoffs. not very fair

I'm sorry I can't support any plan where the #5 team in a Conference/Division/whatever has 95 points and fails to make the playoffs while a #2 team in another one has like 72 points and gets in. Unacceptable.

They wanna realign and change scheduling fine but keep it either 1-8 in the East for playoffs or go back to the way it was in the late 70s/early 80s and just have 1-16 play each other.

Part of the reason it was rejected was they figured out some western teams would probably have even worse travel schedules, namely Pacific teams

The whole plan is clunky and stupid and the NHLPA is right on with their concerns.

Good point. I have to think there's a better solution than the four arbitrary conferences.

People are so naive about the labor stuff. Did you really think it would be smooth sailing? The owners got their cap and a 24% rollback which the stupid PA proposed instead of taking a cap in the fall of 2004 but then didn't take the rollback off the table when they agreed to accept the cap and finalized the agreement in the summer of 2005. The PA will have to accept a 50-50 split since the NFL and NBA took cuts. Not less than 50% which what I have read from NHL sources. The NBA had contract limits in the past and current CBAs. The NHL really wants to put in restrictions. The NBA allows teams to re-sign their own players for 5 years and max length for a free agent is 4 years. The owners should gain on those two issues. The players should keep everything else. However, the owners want to make things "tighter". The PA should stand their ground on those issues. The NHLPA wants to maintain the current flexibility of just players on the roster counting against the cap, allowing teams to exceed the upper limit with long term injuries and allowing teams to front load contracts.

The NHLPA has been successful in getting the $25M the taxpayers of Glendale pay the NHL to cover the Coyotes losses into the revenue pot

Quote:
Heard from multiple sources that the NHL/NHLPA's battle over the $25 million the City of Glendale pays to help run the Coyotes will be settled without arbitration. Neither side wants to risk losing this case. It's taking time while the lawyers duel over language.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...-thoughts.html

Whatever amount is tossed into the pot is a victory for the PA.

The Rangers voted AGAINST realignment. The Devils and Maple Leafs don't like the plan but they voted in favor. Its a stupid plan. Those games against teams in the West are bores. Just switch Winnipeg with a team in the west. They can't do that because Gary Bettman promised Detroit a move to the east. The west teams don't want to lose Detroit. So Bettman decides to realign everything and go back to the 1-4 and 2-3 playoff format which is the same format Bettman scraped as soon as he joined the NHL from the NBA.

I'm watching the Ducks vs Islanders game and I must say, If Anaheim decides to trade any of their top three, it will be the stupidest thing they ever .

I'm happy as a hockey fan--games against Eastern Conference rivals are more interesting that games against the Western Conference. I've grown up watching teams like Boston, Montreal and Toronto (and more "recently" Buffalo, Tampa Bay and even teams like Florida and Carolina) and HATE the idea that they would only come to the Garden once a season under the new system.

I'm glad the NHLpa rejected Bettman realignment plan. The playoff format was horrible. Just switch Winnipeg with Nashville.
Western cities are more spread out than Eastern cities. They just have to deal with the fact that they travel more than Eastern teams.

Why Nashville and not Columbus? Nashville is in the Central Time Zone (Tennessee is a "split" state) and is further west than Columbus (or Detroit for that matter).

Once again: Why Nashville and not Columbus or Detroit? Both are further east than Nashville and are in the Eastern Time Zone (like every team in the Eastern Conference), unlike Nashville, which is the Central Time Zone. I suspect Nashville fans would not be happy to have ALL away games in their conference start a hour earlier than they would at home.
