This is stupid. You're comparing four people to two and ignoring cap hits. O and Bryz's stats suck and since we moved them to make room for him as well this makes no sense. I'll give you a better comparison:
This time last year 1st in the east with Richards and Carter and going strong. This year, 4th and struggling.
My only point being the experts saying the HUGE dropoff in goals. My stats just prove that while they are great players, we havent dropped off the face of the earth in their trades, fair enough?????????????
I don't think comparing the numbers tells the whole story. Obviously the players would have performed differently on different teams (playing with different players) not to mention the other things like injury plus what brucewaynegretzky.

But Richards and Carter bringing a lot more to the table than "just" goals and assists.

Richards: Leadership, Grit, very good shotdown play, pk goal scoring, party mentality, face of the franchise, loved by fans
Carter: Goalscoring, high shooting, Goalscoring, high shooting, solid 2 way game, party mentality, all blaming him for everything^^, hated by fans
Voracek: solid 2way game, good playmaker, hard working guy, uses his body good
Simmonds: hard working guy, good net presence, dirty area player
Couturier: huge defensive game, high hockey sense, huge potential, solid offensive game, good playmaker
Schenn: solid 3rd line player till now, nothing special
So we loose a bit of goal scoring in this trades. But with the potential of all this players we will be better after 1 or 2 seasons...
But we also got Jagr and Read who are our new goal scorers, and donīt shoot high and wide. We got Max who is a fan favourite instantly. And we got Bryzgalov who is the new most hated player by the fans...
So in my opinion we loose Experience and Leadership and we loose PK Goalscoring....
So all in all, itīs ok...
But lets wait how the youngster develop and mainly if Bryz can step up big time. If he can it will be a really good team in the next years...

You make 4th sound like we are 5 miles behind, we are only 6 points behind NY, 3 behind the bruins.
We have had tons of injuries, and we have been playing 5-7 rookies at a time.
Also our goaltending has been pretty bad.
We could easily be in first place right now if it wasn't for these set backs, so don't make it sound like we are toast when we are pretty much still in the thick of things.
( However Schenn has missed significant time as well, Couturier some as well
